DommerEOD - My take on someone elses take - 1969, Nova

DommerEOD - Dominic

So this will be my build page..

My story: I'm a 24y/o from southern CA. I enlisted in the Army back in mid-2009. Became an EOD Tech a tad over a year later, and was in Afghanistan by the beginning of 2011. 13 months and enough stories for a lifetime later i came home. Reenlisted, bought a new daily driver and changed duty stations from Germany to Colorado. Still miss the Nurburgring!

I've been addicted to cars since before i could talk. I generally love all kinds of cars from trucks to imports.. except there are three things i can't stand in the automotive world and those are FWD, I4's and V6's. I started out with aircooled VW's when i was a bit younger. Graduated up to a Toyota FJ Cruiser back in early 2006. Spent thousands and thousands and thousands on it, changing it's purpose from crawler, to expedition rig, to race truck. After spending $11k in just the front suspension last year, i said **** this.. I must move on! So while trying to sell it, i found someone that wanted to sell or trade their Nova. American Muscle.. Something I've wanted all my life just never had that opportunity. I traded off my FJ like it meant nothing to me.

Somewhere in there I bought a 2011 Subaru Impreza STI, then i arrived here:

It's been de-polished

Year: 1969

Model: Nova

Engine:
383 Stroker:
1969 Original SS 350 Block - 4 bolt main (3970010 cast numbers)
- block had been resin filled for strength

Eagle - 4340 Forged 3.75" crank (this is an actual 383 specific crank, not a 400 crank milled down to a 383)
-Knife Edged and Lightened

Eagle H-Beam 4340 Forged Rods (6" rods)

JE 4340 Forged Pancake Pistons (full floating pins and nitrous reliefs) (11:1 Compression = Runs just fine on 91 octane pump gas, but loves 103 octane)
- Pistons were Ceramic Coated for Nitrous but nitours has never been run on it.

64cc Edelbrock Performer RPM Heads (Aluminum)
-Fully ported and port matched to the intake and exhaust
-Valves Sizes increased from 2.02/1.60 to 2.08/1.60
-Rev Kit / K-Motion Springs
-Comp Full Roller Rockers

Holley Strip Dominator Intake Manifold
-Port-matched to heads

Holley 830cfm Mechanical Double Pumper Carb (re-jetted with jet kit included)
-fuel pump is mounted right next to the Fuel Cell and is fully plummed with dash 8 AN fittings and dash 8 steel braded fuel lines.
All Transmission lines are done the same way as well

Iski Cam - Solid Roller Cam - .602/.602 lift 300/300 duration with 1.6' rockers = .642 final lift

Ignition:
MSD 6AL Box with changeable rev limiter chips
MSD Distributor

Griffin 2 - 1 inch core radiator
Black Magic Electric Fan
Remote Trans Cooler with onboard electric fan

Entire assembly has been blueprinted, matched and balanced to each corresponding part.

Body/Exterior: Cowl, 4-pin hood. Fairly straight body.. A good detail is in need.

Front End: Stock w/disc brakes (stock?)

Transmission:
TH350 with a Full Forward Manual Valve Body
10" 4000 Stall with Anti-Balloon Plates

Rear End:
12-Bolt GM, 4.11 Motive gears, TrueTrac diff built by Sutton Performance in La Habra, CA

Exhaust:
Working on some XR1 mufflers

Wheels/Tires:
I believe they are SS wheels.. If you can identify them post up! Will be upgrading current tires to MT E/T streets.

Interior:
10 point cage (NHRA Approved)
5 Point Racing Seatbelts (NHRA Approved)
2 Jaz Bucket Seats w/ covers
Autometer Gauge Cluster for OEM instrument cluster replacement with 5 Autometer gauges and 3 heavy duty switches for fans and fuel pump
Guages: oil pressure, water temp, trans temp, fuel level - Big Gauges: Speed and RPM
15gal Jaz Fuel Cell
Battery in the rear w/ an aluminum enclosed battery housing
Rear Aluminum Firewall which is carpeted and insulated on the inside (NHRA Approved)
On/Off cuttoff switch (located over the rear bumper - passenger side) (NHRA Approved)

Electrical: Painless wiring kit.

Sound system: Music? racecar.

Additional Comments:
I'm not going to lie.. I don't know much about Nova's in general. I'm here to learn, and utilize the mass of wisdom for my future endeavors with this car.

Some things i plan on doing:
Borla XR1 Mufflers
New seats
Not to impressed with the fuel cell.. might be changing that out.
Swap out tires for MT E/T Streets.
AFR 227 heads

What I'm currently doing:

Sutton Performance is building me a GM 12-Bolt w/ 4.11 gears and a TrueTrac differential. Previously had a GM 8.2 10-bolt w/4.56 gears and a mini-spool. Had a pretty gnarly axle failure and the diff itself was sloppy and needed a serious rebuild, so i did what i do best and upgraded now instead of later... Because i plan on more power.

Past rides and the new DD:

Bought this baby Dec 15th.. Yeah, I'm not very loyal when it comes to brands.

Thats a very clean nova you got there. I like the sleeper look . Have you had a chance to take it to the track? If so, how fast?

Thanks!

I have not had it to the track yet. The previous owner was running low-mid 11's with 3.73's and a 3500 stall. When I got it, it was setup with 4.56 gears and a 4000 stall. Currently I'm putting in 4.11s with the 4000 stall. Hopefully I'll have a chance to get it to the track over Christmas when I'm back in socal for leave.

With that, no it's not here in colorado with me Car is in socal under the watch of my dad. I live in the barracks, so no garage + winter weather.. yeah, no, it'll stay in the good weather

Also it's not stated above, but the engine was dyno'd at 633hp/577tq (@ the fly) by Superior Automotive of Anaheim on 103 octane. Wheel HP is up in the air right now.. With this new rear end going in I'm sure there will be a greater loss in power but it will be made up! Stay tuned for a Dyno run in late December

Updated first post with some more photos!

12 bolt is in!

Next time I'm back in SoCal, The front end will be getting revamped. It's sloppy and old. Not going to spend thousands on it, just going to freshen it up. Also, Door and window rubber. It all sucks. Hard and cracking or just missing. Nothing to difficult.

Regarding the worry about the tight looking fuel lines; It has solid motor mounts so i'm not to concerned with it.
