shock bolt

I'm assuming its one of the upper bolts It may require center punching it and drilling it out to like 1/4" and retapping the threads(or whatever size is correct to retap to 5/16"). When I put rear shocks on my 69 I retapped all my upper holes since I had no idea how long it sat w/o shocks on it and I'm glad I did it

edit: - delete this statement- see 1320quicks note below
"or little larger and use a longer bolt with a nut on top - should be accessable thru the trunk"
please disregard I know on my camaro its accessable

Your best bet is to drill out the bolt and retap it to 5/16-18. The key is to get the drill as close to centered as possible. I usually start with an 1/8 inch drill and work my way up. Your going to want to end up with a letter F drill (.257). Take your time, you'll get it.

There is no access to the top side of the shock mount. I just did a mini-tub on my 68 and I cut all that stuff out so I know how it is put together. The upper shock mount is a 1/4" steel plate that is spot welded to the heavy rear support area sandwitched between the trunk floor sheet metal the bottom sheet metal. The easiest way to resolve this issue is as others have mentioned. Drill out the broken bolt and re-tap the threads. Anything else is going to be a MAJOR project.

I had the same problem with the right rear shock mount.

In my case, the floor of the trunk had been badly repaired with fiberglass. We cut some of that out and fabed up a new mount with the correct threads etc. Bought some body bolts and away we go. The mount had been heli coiled by a previous owner. Did not last removing the shock.

Will have to repair the trunk at some point.
