fuel pressure regulator,edelbrock carb?

I'm changing from a 43 year old carter AFB to a new edelbrock 600 performer series carb on a mild 350.My question ..has anyone experienced having to use a fuel pressure regulator to make it work properly? I believe my fuel pump is stock ... when I install the new carb, it starts and runs and when putting it in gear {automatic} it stalls right away. the car seems to like the new carb and it brings the motor to life over the old one. When I called edelbrock tech support they tell me I need a regulator...I'm looking for all the advice I can get...THANKS !

i had a Holley 12-327 (6.5-8psi) on my '65, 350 w/Eddy 650cfm, and didn't use one. never had a problem... i also have that same pump on my '64, 377w/750dbl-pmpr Holley, and i need one... but gauge shows 9psi so it'll depend on pressure of pump.

a stock fuel pump is generally in the 6.5psi range.

i'd think you'd be OK

if it dies when putting it in drive/reverse i'd check idle speed (RPM's) and adjust if needed...

Why the step down? A rebuild would have been cheaper and you'd have a better carb.

I just figured it was time to get rid of the relic..but I might switch the metering rods and the jets from the new one {625 cfm} into the old one to see what happens.
