Coil over spring kit ( Rear shocks )

I bought a kit from pep boy's.. Wanted to see if they will help the rear suspension, and keep the car from bottoming out.....1250 Lb's.. Anyone ever use them on a 1st or 2nd gen ??? I'd like to know if they're worth the $30. Look pretty simple to install..

they're still somewhat of a band-aid. either the car needs new springs due to sagging or it doesn't. if ride height is OK and you just want a stiffer rear suspension then i'd suggest a multi-leaf set up or a more aggressive shock... but stiffer shocks are a band-aid also if you're trying to compensate for a weak, worn out spring...

if the car bottoms out, i'd remove & inspect the shocks... they might be junk

stance looks ok to me... if the shocks are bottoming out i can guarantee ya they'll probably be blown out. they should never bottom out or be over extended or they'll break/get damaged.

i lowered my car too much a year or so ago and broke a shock... not a good thing.

check shock travel, check body travel etc to make sure you're not bottoming them out. hitting bump stops is different than bottoming out a shock... either way if you are bottoming something out... something's not right

So why was BM selling the springs? are they original to his car meaning 40 plus years old?

He bought them from someone else and was intending to use them on the bat mobile... He said he was going to use something else.. Not sure if it was something from cpp or cbr.. can't remember right off hand.. They were still boxed up from whoever sent them to him..

It's looking more and more that the leaf springs may be bad.. I'm having them inspected tomorrow... The shocks are new here's a vid. they seem to be fine...

Sometimes it feels like my bones are creakin... I'm a tub but the wife still thinks I'm sexy, and thats after losing 15 lb's..,, Not sure why all the squeaking.. I lubed it ( I thought pretty good with litheum grease. ) The car bottoms out going over tracks.. or just bad roads with dips.. I always slow down before going over tracks.. I have too.. I'm picking up some springs that were out of a wagon tomorrow.. They're mono leafs, but quit a bit thicker... I'm hoping they do the trick.. It shouldn't bottom out.. regardless.. I keep my trunk empty as much as possible.. but it still bottoms out.. Like I said.. I'm having them looked at tomorrow too...

+1

my Old shop teacher said push down on it once, and if it only rebounds once it's good. if it bounces more then once it's worn.

if it's too soft, try a rear sway bar, they stiffen it up a bit.

i'd get it on a rack and inspect it. a bad muffler or exhaust pipe clamp/hangar can cause a clunk. don't let the guy sell you on a set of springs without a thorough inspection of underneath the car.

it looks OK ta me. if it didn't i'd say so...

Gotcha... I'm taking it up to Plumrats... ( Ken Wells )... He's the one with the springs... I'm going to have him look at the leafs that are on the car now as well... I trust Ken with anything that comes up concerning the Nova.. He's always been one of the best IMO...
