Vacuum Video

Alright guys, Got a timing light with a dial on it this is what i did...
Started the car and got it to 3,000 RPM, put the timing light on it and it was around 32* advanced... But this was with the distributor unhooked and all the lines pluged!!!!!
So I turned the distributor until i got it at 10*... 8* made it run rough..
Hooked up the distributor to the ported manifold vac on carb, needle was jumping more than the video, so i pluged it into the full manifold vac on carb.
and the needle was moving like it is in video.

Put the timing light on it and it was sitting around 34* advanced, the dial on the timing light is awesome!

But heres the vid, im sorry if its too loud or not loud enough i dont have sound on the computer right now... and remember its just headers on it, no pipes or mufflers.

The Vac is definetliy a lil jumpy-maybe a vacum leak or valve related...

Is that what your asking about is the vacum gauge being jumpy?

I'd suggest to start out by setting the timing at idle. Depending on your cam, try something arounf 16 degreees btdc. Set this with the timing tab and the light set to zero. Then check your lights accuraccey by checking with the lights adjustment knob.
After getting the idle setup, I'd try adjusting the idle mixture screws on the carb for highest vacuum. See if that smoothes things out.
Do all this with dist. adcance plugged and you should only use full manifold vacuum for timing advance the "ported" is for emission applications.

Yep the vacuum being jumpy, I've got another thread on the 2nd page about the vacuum, figured i'd start a new one for the video so it doesnt get lost in the mix...

I personally think its valve related, because that was sort of the problem before, but its hard to adjust the valves by doing the "back off until you hear chatter, then tighten until the chatter goes away, while the engine is running" becuase its open headers, and you cant hear anything!!!

And on that note the cops were called last night at 6pm, (10pm is the noise ordinance) but apparently the car was too loud for the stupid neighbors!!! It was a cool visit though, the cop was more interested in the nova and whats been done to it, and my buddy's lincoln out front and what it has in it, than he was about the noise! the look in his eye kinda looked like he wanted to hear it running!

The needle is jumping less then a pound each way, I see no problem with that at all, you may be able to smooth it out a bit with some air/fuel adjustments on the carb!

Thanks fast eddie,
we've done everything, new vacuum hoses, fixed leak on manifold, timing, rocker arms, etc... i know when i tried to lean the mixture out the vacuum went haywire for a second and sounded like the car was popping real bad!

But thanks for the input guys!
