63 Nova SS console?

Does anyone have a picture of what the 63 Nova SS center console looks like? I cannot find one for sale let alone be sure it is from a 63. I saw one on ebay but a friend told me he didn't think it should have a light for the back seat area.

If it's ok here is the link to the one I found.

That's what mine looked like, and I did have the courtesy light in the rear half with a white lense for people getting into the back seat. Looks like a nice piece.

There are two styles, I believe both of them were used in 63, but the one with the removable shift pattern plate was used exclusively in 64.

The rear courtesy light (as shown in the auction you mentioned) is correct. That one should work fine.

Here's a picture of the front half for both styles:

My 63 SS has the original console and it has the removable shift plate with rectangular opening. I just had this assembly out while I was re-doing the carpet and made notes of the part numbers. The removable shift plate in mine is the same number as the one shown in the 1963 Assembly Manual.

Thanks!

I am glad I got the info on Nova Joe's unfortunately I had to run out RIGHT at the auctions end and lost the piece by $2.50

If anyone here ever finds one let me know. I received a PM or 2 all offering consoles in rough shape so will continue my search for now.

These consoles pit really badly, especially the back piece, so if you're waiting for a near perfect one, it may take a long time. Also, Like the one you posted pics of, it's quite common for the thin piece of metal under the courtesy light to be broken. Because these consoles have so many grooves (and that's where the pits are), they're almost impossible to repair and re-chrome to anywhere near original appearance.

It depends entirely on the extent of the pitting and whether the thin metal piece below the courtesy light is intact. As mentioned in an earlier post, these units pit badly and because they're finely grooved, are almost impossible to restore properly. I sold an unbroken one (2 pieces) that I considered 5/10 for $100 a few years ago.

If they are not broken in the back, the two mounting tabs are there, chrome is halfway decent without giant open blisters, and no holes drilled in it. probably looking at the 150-200 range. The nicer ones in terms of condition of the chrome I have seen them hit the 400 mark.

These consoles are in that love/hate relationship category. Nearly all have some type of bubbling in them, even the more $ ones. You look forever to find a nice one and when you do everyone else wants it too so it hits you in the wallet.

If you have one re chromed, it will probably impress your wife or non-Nova people, but they just don't look the same in the ribs/grooves.

Probably more info than you were looking for but I had to vent a little bit on the console issue.

Anyone have any clue what type of bulb goes in that back courtesy light socket? I have the lens cover, but there is no bulb in there.

Thanks in advance

This is not exactly like the original assembly, but extremely close and obviously designed to work as original: http://www.parts123.com/parts123/yb....Z5Z5Z50000132A

Just had to change mine. The one that came out said T90 on it. Must be old, because it's stamped made in the U.S.A.. The new one just says 90 on the bulb and the package....made in China.
