Pro-Touring Sticky

Well......

I guess since I was the big brain that suggested it I'll start it and see the response we get. If enough traffic goes through the thread maybe Steve and the moderators will make it a forum.

Hmmmm.....maybe if I move my build thread over here with the 70,000+ views it has it just might convince Steve!

Don't you 3rd gens have the same clip as a camaro? You could do a guldstrand mod on your control arm pick up points to get better geometry!

Here's how:

Pro-touring rocks

Having raced my whole life turning corners I was surprised to find so many drag racers here but I guess we all have our distinct nova addictions. Mine has always been chassis science.

I suggest that before you post in this thread that you read my latest post in the related thread in the Site News area. Your opinions are welcome there, not here.

This needs to be subject related, not an I'm in thread...

Just posted in the site new section. I would love to have a place to talk PT with other nova owners. I think this would bring in other members. Here is a quick pic of my PT Nova project.

OK Guys! Steve wants to see some tech, not just random banter. That's what the BS section is for!

We are trying to find a modern set of wheels like impala SS or 90's camaro/firebird 17" that with 6061 adapters could be run on a 3rd gen. Any ideas?

In the spirit of adding some substance to this whole "PT Section" discussion, here's a quick peek of my 77 Nova PT project. I think this car has all of the essential elements of a PT car, absent perhaps the LS Motor, which I just couldn't justify within my limited budget.

I can safely say I'm one of the few guys out there doing this type of build with a fourth gen Nova, and there are probably even less that went the truck arm rear suspension route.

Here's a quick list of the "PT" aspects of the car:

T-56 Six Speed
Narrowed Rear
Truck Arm Rear Suspension
Tubular Control Arm Front - QA-1 Adjustable Coil Overs
13" Baer Discs up front, 12" Baer Discs in the rear
5 Point harnesses in the cockpit, 99 Monte Carlo Buckets

I did get the opportunity to do some light road testing back in early June before we began dissasembly for bodywork/paint. I have to say, all the cliches fit with this car. It rides like it's on rails, makes power all day long, and will stop on a dime and give you a nickel in change. It's just a blast to drive. Best part of all?? 70 miles an hour and 1450 rpms, give or take. Love it.

Just began bodywork last week and things are progressing nicely. The plan is to be finished with the paint job by October and then have all winter to do reassembly, wiring, interior, etc. Hoping for a spring '09 unveiling.

Here's some pics to show where we're at and what we've done:

Looking forward to chatting with you guys.

Sharp looking car. You've definately paid attention to the detail. My wife has a 76 Nova hatch sitting in the yard. I wonder if she'd let me do to it what I'm doing to mine
