Can anyone advise what this is behind the right rear seat in the trunk of my 1972 4 door nova?

The part in the trunk is a liquid / vapor separator. It keeps any liquid gasoline that sloshes into the tank's vent hoses from finding it's way up into the vapor canister under the hood.

You can take it all out as long as you use a vented gas cap, but get used to a fuel smell from the car. If you ever switch to EFI it is nice to have the system in place.
