Need help/verification on compression of short block

Hey guys,

I'm sure some of you read my thread a few weeks back on trying to figure out what cam to run in my 327 build. I've decided to run the Elgin Industries oem grind of the 30-30.

Here is my question on a little different of a subject though. I have a fresh 2-3k mile 327 short block (standard bore) that I am using for my build. It came out of a 300hp 327 67' Corvette. The casting number is V0626HE. I've ran the casting numbers and such through the GM books and I'm getting mixed information. I want to know what compression ratio I should expect running my '461' camel hump heads? I'm just going to assume that my heads haven't been milled and are a standard 64cc.

I've seen that the compression with this short block with 64cc heads is anywhere from 10.0:1 to 10.5:1. I know it's not a huge deal but I'd like to see if anyone knows something I don't? I'd like to keep my compression above 10.0:1 if at all possible.

I've also read that the internals in this short block from the factory used a steel forged crank, forged rods, and forged pistons?

Here are some pics for reference.

Can't seem to find an "HE" suffix. In your pic the last number and HE suffix look to have been re-stamped. Crank will be forged, but I don't believe the rods and pistons are. With those flat tops and a 64cc head, you should be at 10.5 to 1 or a tad less depending on head gasket used.

Here's what you have:

Block

Yr Cast # CID Low Pwr Hi Pwr Mains Comments
1967 3892657 302 290 290 2 Z-28, small journal
1967 3892657 327 210 350 2 car & truck
1967 3892657 350 295 295 2 Camaro

Your Stamp "V0626HE"

V - Flint Michigan
06 - June
26 - June 26th
HE - 1965, 327, M/T, 300HP, 4BBL, Vette

So, if this engine is all original, you've got a 300 horse 327 that's been unmolested.

Congratulations!
