Does any one have and pics and a part number for a Direct fit Aluminum Radiator with trans cooler(on the bottom) for a second gen nova.Looking for a 3-4 core.thanks bm
i've just ordered a welded aluminum rad(complete with polished shroud and 16" elctric fan) from TCI. it's supposed to fit nicely, but i can't agree or disagree until i get it.i'll post pic's when it arrives if that helps, but it's probably stil a week away.
leftcoast carl.
don't get caught up in the number of rows in the aluminum radiator. If you get a new style crossflow you don't need all the rows. I have a 2 row crossflow style and it is very efficient compared to my old 4 row down flow.
I ran an Alumitech in my 72 w/trans cooler. they also make one for 66/67. It's a bitchin radiator. Direct bolt in, and the tanks look factory. check them out.
Love my Be Cool, went from overheating during a parade or cruise to never going above 185, have electric fan that kicks on then. Runs 170-175 going down the road even on a 90 day. 400 horse 350 just an FYI
These guys will make you anything you like. http://www.prcracing.com/about-prc.html They say that they are going to do the support and rad. all in a kit. For the 62-67. Also it is all made there in shop.
Bruce, PM Burke on here. Thats his user name also. I was over at his father in laws this past weekend and he's got a PRC that he had made for his LS conversion. SUPER nice and clean radiator. Welds are second to none.
just to make a suggestion, got my radiator through portell, little bit cheaper than summit, aluminum 3 pass good for 450 , crossflow direct bolt in, worth a call guys name is gary.
sorry to hi-jack but can you guys give me some ideas on mounting a universal radiator that is too big for the car? right now it sits on the frame rails. It has two hokey brackets that are on top but nothing to secure it at the bottom. It will slide back toward the engine.
I made a lower stand for mine. I used strap that fits inside of the channel of the radiator and made pedestals that welded to the strap and bolted to the frame to hold the bottom and made brackets on the top that were slotted and bolted to upper radiator support with l brackets that sit down in the channel on the top of the radiator. I used adhesive foam insulation on the top and bottom brackets to keep from rubbing the radiator. This was all on a Griffin cross flow aluminum radiator.
So after all the research this is the one that looks best for my car....two problems....1.super expensive.....2. Its a downflow insted of crossflow....Is that a problem?thanks bm http://www.summitracing.com/parts/BCI-62276/
If you're wanting the tranny cooler lines on the bottom of the radiator, a downflow is what you'll have to get. I have a crossflow Be-Cool and a separate tranny cooler tucked away under the rad. support behind the front bumper. You can't see it, but it's there.
I just purchased a Howe Racing aluminum 2 core cross flow radiator from summit $200 bucks. It fit very nicely in my 66. Also the Rich 66 shroud/fan combo also worked well on it.
I use a derale stacked plate trans cooler with a inline thermostat that activates the attached cooling fan... never a trans temp problem. Cooler mounts under pass seat area, much shorter cooling lines.
Best I can do on Photo"s right now, I got this from Modern Performance, Matches the factory with heavy aluminum 2 core, same radius on corners and same ribs across tanks, set up for big blocks.
Summit SUM-381325, Alum Crossflow made by Griffin for Summit. Upside: works great & has a trans cooler. Downside: Have to make brackets & does not have a drain plug. IMHO cant beat it for the price. PM me if you need more info on brackets & hoses.
That Entropy radiator is nice!!!! however the owner of this nova isn't in the market to buy another $300 radiator. My buddy is going to bend me up a lower support out of 16ga steel and I will screw it down to the frame rails. Add some rubber or foam to the bottom and reuse his upper brackets and done!!! next will be to mount the trans cooler and fan.
I cant belive its already been 3 years since I did the install
