ok so i screwd up and bamged out the original steering box and threw it away. i have a tci front clip and was planning on running the original column. problem is now i have no shaft pertuding from the column and i noticed the coupler is lose. is there suposed to be a bearing at the bottom of the column that wore out or something? any help would be great, or am i just screwd.lol
First rule of car building is: Never throw anything away! You might need it later.
What you'll need first is the 3/8 steering shaft cut off the original steering box. Which now you will have to find. 2nd, go down to your local hardware store and get a sealed bearing that will fit the inside diameter of the stock column and the 3/8 steering shaft. 3rd, you'll have to make or find a holdown bracket to secure the lower column to the toeboard floor.
4th, file down the 3/8 steering shaft to a double D configuration so that a steering U joint can be safely secured to it and coupled to the rest of the steering shaft going to the rack.
Hope this helps.
at the bottom of the column as pictured is a round block with three 5/16 bolts that hold it in the column outer tube... the steering shaft is supported by that block (for lack of a better word)
perfectly. thanks guys. im thinking of just going flaming river.lol. i need so many pieces and it might just be better in the long run to pony up now. i really apreciate it and LOVE this board....
