I know it's a 10 bolt, but I don't know which one. I'm hoping it's the 8.5", which I heard were used in alot of early Novas, but I want to know how to tell the difference. My car has the 230 six backed by a powerglide. Anybody have a good guess or a surefire way to know?
It means that the ring gear has 37 teeth and the pinion gear has 11 teeth. You can get a ring and pinion in a pumpkin but a nut shell is a little small.
3.36 means it take 3.36 turns of the drive shaft to get 1 turn of the wheels. 3.36 to 1. The bigger the number (4.56 i.e.) the top speed is slower but you get there way faster. The lower the number (2.56 i.e.) the top speed will be faster but it will take much longer to get there. Depending on what your doing with the vehicle and motor/tranny/tire combo will determine what gearing is best for your application.
My 63 had a front loader rearend in it when I got it. I still have it sitting in the garage but I never took the time to see what it was.
