Emergency Brake Handle Cotter Pin Removal

Does any know how to remove the cotter pin from the emergency brake handle without removing the entire emergency hand brake assembly?

Use a small drift punch (flat ended). What you have there is called a roll pin.

Think you will find it much easier to remove the hand brake, I wouldn't want to pound on it hanging hanging from the dash.

I've used a pin punch while it was still in the car and it worked fine for me. I did another 66 and I had to remove it from the car because the pin was really tight. Anybody use any of the handles that have the set screw? Wonder how they work?

i just did that job of replacing the park brake handle. i tried it in place, not after my finger got hit for the second time. remove it from the dash, 2 big philips screws an it was loose from the dash. then theres a lock pin set-up that holds the 1/4'' dia. pin. remove the lock pin. dont drop the pin behind the carpet, like i did. use a drift punch to drive out the tension pin from brake rod.
