Question 9 Inch Axle Seal?

I damaged one of my axle seals on my QP 9 inch. The housing has Torino big bearing ends on it but the auto parts store guy can't figure out what seal without knowing a vehicle to look it up. I'd love to get it locally since I'm off of work to work on the car tomorrow so no seal will end up being a wasted day. Anyway, the seal that came out has the size on it of 1.500 2.500 and 0.312. Any advice on possibly getting a seal locally? I've tried googling it but got no where with those numbers.

All the markings on the seal are: ASA 6128 TB 1.500 2.500 and 0.312

Thanks for any advice.

Skip the "Manny, Mo, and Jack" stores and go to a drive line shop. Take the seal with you so they can match it up.

No name or number on the seal inside outside?

If not since you have the sizes a local bearing/seal shop in Houston. Something like these people: http://www.houstonbearing.com/

Is this what you need? Doesn't give you actual dimensions of the seal

You should be able to pick it up from any local parts store just tell them the size of the seal you need.

The info you provided stars it has 1.5" inside diameter and 2.5" outside diameter.

You prolly want this right here: national seal 51098

I'd call QP and ask them then to be sure 100%. They'll tell you exactly what you need, then you can go to the local parts store and give them the part number and be done with it.

QP is very helpful especially if you bought a diff from them.

Well, I tried calling a couple driveline shops around houston and they were surprising no help whatsoever. One of them told me there was no way they could get me the correct seal without knowing what car the rear came out of...huh...

If I ever need work done I won't be going to that shop. So I ended up going to Oreillys Auto parts and ended up getting a helpful counter guy. He spent 5 mins on the computer looking without coming up with what I needed then went to the back and pulled out a huge old parts book and spent another 5 plus mins looking through that and eventually come up with at the exact seal I needed. I have to go back and pick it up this afternoon. It was nice to get someone who knows what they are doing and who actually took the time to go beyond punching keys on a computer like the other stores I checked.

Thanks for all help guys!

Amazingly most of the places I looked online never actually listed the sizes. Like Summit for example has ones that are probably the correct seal but you can't verify the sizes. I was really trying to avoid waiting for one to be delivered but I'm glad i was able to get one today.

Write it down in a notebook so you don't have to go on a scavenger hunt to find one the next time.

I keep a binder of receipts of my car and stuff like that, the box with the part number goes in the binder.

Good idea. I usually just toss my receipts in a box in my garage but I haven't been as organized with that as I should be. With my f100 build I had an excel spread sheet with all the parts I used from other vehicles which will come in handy since that's going on 10 years now. I think I'm going to start something like that for the nova.

I always keep all my receipts and paperwork so I can go and review when needed plus I give them to the new owner when I sell the car.
