my new daily driver is a '63 400 series moordoor... but it has the black control knobs (heater, lights etc) no dash trim... is this just the way it happened to be ordered/made?

On the 1963 cowl tag - Line #2 '04' could indicate either a 300 series with 6 cyl. engine - OR - a Nova 400 series w/ L6. (with '69' designating 4 door sedan)

The black knobs indicate a definate 300 series car.

If the bodyside moulding goes from wide to narrow - it's a 300 Series Chevy II.

I suspect it may be a 300 series. The glove box should say nova 400 on the scripts. My 63 4door 400 series is an 630449 vin/cowl tag. Is there any of the trim left after the fenders?

i'll POST some tomorrow after the radio hole in the Moordoor project gets patched in by my Dwarf, David.. it's too dark to take any now... :D

he wore out the position as my Minion so he switched jobs and was parallel transferred to the Dwarf position... he still gets used/abused the same, don't worry! :stir:

Bob, can you tell from the code what the dash/door color is? it's a cool greyish color. the door panels are old and patina'd but are in such great shape... i dig this car it's just a shame everything on it is old and worn out. it does run but the piston slap is noticable... rust throughout the body... the upholstery looks good but is damp under the cover (rear seat) i'm gonna drive the wheels off of it (slowly & calmly) but i really can't say how long it'll hold up... it's a putter. :D

The trim code breaks down to a fawn cloth/vinyl benchseat interior, but you probably already figured that out. The color of the interior metal is the question. It's likely fawn as well, but is a different shade than the soft upholstery. It's probably the '4' or the '12' in the trim code, but I don't know of any decodes for these numbers.

Here is a quick decoder i made for Oakland cars after the Nova Mini Nats last year. I still have to make one for the other factories, because the interior paint code is located in different spots on each tag.
Good information. Having this info for the other factories would be great.

Ok here is the working theory I have on that unknown code. So far it doesnt go over 31 and it seems to corespond roughly with the week, averaging about a few days after the coresponding week.

This is straight out of my spreadsheet.

The Willow run cars dont seem to have any unknown info on them.

Sometimes there are acceptions, but not very often. I think it may be the projected date they wanted it off the assebly line.
