1963 build sheet?

I was talking with a very knowledgeable ‘car guy’ about his 1963 Chevy II 2 door sedan. He bought it from the guy that bought it from the little old lady original owner. It has always been garaged and owned by the original owner until 2 years ago. He was telling me that he had the front fenders off cleaning up the firewall where some brake fluid messed it up. When he looked at the front fenders on the saw horse the original build sheet was on the inside of one. I am not sure if 1st gen build sheets were put anywhere in particular but has anyone heard of this? He says he carefully peeled it off and has it in a sheet protector.

Good point, Tony. There was more than one build sheet for these cars. I found what was left of a Fisher Body sheet under the passenger side carpet in my 63 SS convertible. It was in several pieces which had become fused into the felt carpet underlay....totally unreadable.

I will see if I can borrow it. I am trying to get him to check with a guy about some reveal mouldings so why not.

I Found Mine

in the same place. I think it was the passenger fender. Thought it was an old news paper at first, but on closer look I'd only heard about finds like this before and thought it was like finding the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. I posted it up here, but guess it was no big deal except to me.

The guy I talked to had a low mileage car that was always kept inside so maybe that is why the sheet survived. I still have not heard back from him to see if he will scan what he found and send it to me.

Build Sheet Scan

I was just out in the shop for a few minutes and thought about the build sheet thread. After I found it, I placed it in a top unused drawer of a tool box. As I looked at it again this evening I pondered how to get it scanned for you guys. It's so tattered that I'm afraid to handle it too much. It's like handling a piece of tissue paper. I'll figure something out and share it. Maybe somebody here can help me cipher it?

These things sound like they are more rare then I once thought. Again, it's the stuff I've only heard about too. I looked High and Low in my 69 camaro for that thing having heard that they sometimes place them in the back seat springs too. I may have to take a digital image of it so as not to tear it up anymore than it already is.

Any suggestions?

Wow that brittle?? I guess just take a picture of it.. I've got a confederate $20 bill and I just placed it in a stiff plastic bag and affixed that to some cardboard. Maybe transport it on the piece of cereal box and slide it onto the scanner Just hold the lid to the scanner up off of it a bit so as not to crush it.. I know the scanner's bright light could slightly discolor the paper hard to say.. The safest thing to do is borrow a high resolution dslr and take a good quality close up pic of it.
