I'm sure the original gasket would work best, if it was in good shape. The guys who did mine had to wrestle with it to keep it from slipping off the glass in one corner while they were putting it in, but once they were done, it was fine. That was with the Steele gasket.

Also, I cut the folded part off of about 10 clips, and we used all of them on top, and screwed them in place. The rest were the black repro clips, so none of the old clips were used.

I would go with Steele again, and I think I'm not alone in that. The front was pretty much flawless, and given that I've seen pictures of others where the top corners did not fit at all, I'm convinced. There is an extra corner reinforcement in the windshield gasket that you might have to slit with a razor to get your stainless to go in, but there's nothing to it.

Greg..... EXCELLENT information on the clips !!!!

I've been gone for a few days., & just saw your posts now......
This will be great for folks needing the info in the future....

As far as the prior comments on reusing the old gasket: I would strongly discourage it. You will need to stretch the new rubber gasket around the diameter of the glass., and old brittle rubber will not allow for this to happen., nor seal tightly enough not to leak IF it were to be re-installed., even with tons of sealer.... The sealing is done via the rubber gasket itself. "Liquid" sealant is more or less used as an "installation aid"......
