Ok,
I've got my 84 Camaro tube chassis car. I know it's not a nova but my street car is...lol. Anyways, I took the car down to the track for the last test & tune of the year and I had changed my blower pulley and I got almost a half second off my ET in the quarter so now the car is running 9.57
My problem is I was going through the traps at about 8600 RPM and that is a little high. So I want to lower that over the winter What are my options?
I have a 31 tall tire
rearend gears: 4:86
trans:BTE 2 spd powerglide, 1.86 straight cut gear
I'm thinking I either have to change the rearend gears or possibly a taller tire?
What does everyone recommend?

Going to either a 4.56 gear or a 33" tire will drop you 450 rpm or so at the same mph. Visit the TCI trans website. Under the "technical" section you will find thier "racing calculators". They are very easy to use and quite handy.
I have said this before, your meal ticket is held by the hands bending the fins. The converter can be your best friend or your worst enemy. Get cozy with your converter man, send him birthday cards and shake his hand in public.
No seriously you can tune your converter. A good converter man can tune-up your ride better than you may think.

what I'm running:
355 small block chevy with 177 weind blower
TCI 8" 5500 stall convertor
BTE straight cut gear powerglide
4.86 gears in the rearend
31" tall tire
my times last week were:
9.55 @ 158
my three passes didn't change much from that number. but like I said I don't want to be going through the traps at 8600 RPM. I would like that to be a little lower and that also got bumped up with the new pulley's.
How much would your tune up suffer from a rear axle ratio change? You may have your 60 foot dialed in with the 4.86 gear, but I think this ratio may be a little deep. Your trap RPM is a bit much with a mini blower, it just heats the air at that point.(especially with your pulley change) I think a smaller gear (4.56~4.30) might upset your 60ft, but you will gain top end because the blower will be more efficient at the lower RPM.

At some point in your tune up, the roots blower will fight you, become a back stabber. When it heats the air. And it will if you let it. With the roots, regardless what displacement, you need to know at what RPM and load the supercharger begins to heat the air.

What RPM do you want to go through the traps at? Each .1 of gear change will lower RPM 100 RPM at any speed.
