Steve's Nova Site is an automotive enthusiast website dedicated to the 1962 - 1979 Chevrolet Nova, Chevy II and Acadian automobiles. We work together to preserve, restore, drive, show, race and provide fellowship for these classic cars. This is one of the best places to find information about parts, rebuilding, restoration and racing. This website is not affiliated with GM, General Motors or Chevrolet in any capacity.
After losing about $1500 in tools (I got robbed twice) on Thursdays, I bought a cable lock and tie my stuff to the railing along the staging lanes. On Sunday you can leave your things laying out without a problem, but the scumbag import racers have to be watched on Thursday nights.
sounds rough. i've been lucky, but now intend on making sure stuff is inside my car. i'm always nervous about leaving stuff out. too many people like free stuff, even if they're the ones telling you that it was nice that you gave it to them when you really weren't.

Mike did a 7.07! His car worked really well. 1.57 60' and 97mph on the big end. He short shifted if I remember right. I didn't see his last pass, but I think they kicked him off.
My car - not so hot. I've got the clutch figured out, or so I think. Got a total of 3 passes in, one pass I did a 7.69 with an awful 1.98 60' due to a bog not tire spin, the second I did a 7.17 with a 1.71 60' with a somewhat bog, and the final pass I took a little too much clutch out of it and didn't bog, but had to abort at half track. I will talk to some stickshift guys to see what I should do, but I already have a couple plans brewing. Honestly, I think the bottle is the way to go. Keep the base pressure high where it bogged the car, add a 125 shot to get used to it and see how the car does. It was a long night, I got only 3 passes and I was there the WHOLE NIGHT! A couple cars crashed, one being a really nice '66 Nova.

How many people thank you for cool photos? Speaking of cool photos, I think you or Dale have one that I bought all matted up or something that looks pretty awesome. How do I get a hold of that?

It was'nt that blue one that crashed was it? how bad?
I think the extra HP will help your car launch.

i think the car belongs to Eric Brown. one of the top 10 rides this year according to CHP. I didn't see the car, but my dad said the suspension looked as though it was somehow crooked, and the car kissed the rail on the driver's side.
I've got a nitrous kit, now I need to start hooking it up. It will be fun to see what the car does when it hooks with enough power to get out of the bog.

I know the Eric Brown car, and I didn't see it out there. unless it showed up late. There was a Marina blue 66 out there that runs every once in a while. It runs like 112mph and is a really nice car. I was thinking that was the one. Sucks either way. regardless of which car it was hopefully its not too bad.

A few people actually buy them!
I asked Dale to deliver the photo to you, but I guess he forgot--Are you going to Fontana? I might be there one day this weekend, but not sure which. Dale's in Vegas, so I can't get it today.
If it were me, I'd fix the bog before moving on to the bottle, what carb do you run?
I missed the Nova crash.
It's a proform 950. I had CSU go through it according to my setup. You think it's a carb problem then?
When the car doesn't hook so hard it doesn't bog. I've done a 1.60 60' with this setup (even with the 3.73's), and last night I could only muster up a 1.71. The second pass the car hooked and the clutch slipped just a little then went. Mediumish bog, but a whole lot more linear than the first pass. I'm sorta thinking leave the clutch at that setting and launch at a real rpm... Like 6000+ or so. I'm working with an aluminum flywheel, so there isn't a whole lot of stored energy like with a 35 pound steel wheel. My whole flywheel and clutch package together probably weighs in less than 20 pounds.

Dale told me he forgot it at the BBQ. I'm still in no hurry. Maybe I'll make an excuse to swing by the shop sometime and pick it up then. I doubt I'll be out at Fontana. Or maybe I'll figure out my bog out there...

I just looked in CHP this morning and the cars were extremely similar. I commented to my dad as that '66 went by in the lanes how nice it was. There was only one blue '66 car that I recall seeing, so it probably wasn't Eric Brown's. I agree though, it's too bad any Nova gets wrecked. Especially when the car looks so nice.

I didnt know you had an aluminum flywheel. I would think that could be hurting you too. killing some bottom end?

I need a flywheel with a friction surface that's replaceable. The sintered iron clutches EAT metal up. When I took everything apart to change the throwout bearing I decided I'd pull the scattershield and inspect the clutch at the same time. There was a bit of wear on the metal that I've never seen with an organic clutch. I knew that going in to it, but it's pretty impressive. All the parts are rebuildable (pressure ring, friction surface on the fw, etc.), unlike a steel flywheel that would cost $300ish on it's own each time the clutch did it's work on the surface. That's why I'm considering doing a couple things different next time out. Some counterweight to help grab at higher rpm, and launching at 6000+ rather than 5200 like last night. If I can get the clutch to slip just a little while staying at about 6000 on the launch then locking up after it gets going the car should work properly. Should is the key word there...
