Hey all
Just got around to sand blasting my interior and found a surprise. I found two holes in the Dash that someone bolted in a speaker and had to weld them up. After blasting I found two more smaller holes on each side of the Dash, Someone had put filler over them, so I welded them up also.
Now for the surprise, I found holes along the Dash overhang and suspect that the Nova came with a Dash Cover. If so I would like to restore it but don't have any idea what they looked like or if they are even available repopped or maybe someone has one they don't need. (yea right).
Still have the complete foor pan out of the car so I thought this would be a great time to sand blast the complete interior while I can stand and move around inside.
Any info or input on the Dash Cover would be great.
This is an awesome forum. Been following it for couple of years.:yes
The padded dash was an option and was a vinyl covered foam overlay supported under the dash by a stainless metal strip that was screwed along the length of the dash..... PM me .....

Hey Tony
Thanks for the info (I pmed you)
Do you know if this pad used holes along the bottom of the windshield on the top of the dash? I have several holes equally spaced across the top of dash also along with the two holes on each side of the defroster vents. Are all these holes used for the cover? Thanks
The front edge is secured to those holes with a phillips screw with a small washer combination.. there were two door panel type push clips that secured the area just to the left and right of the speaker area.
A stainless steel strip held the lower edge in place. After market pads are close to $190.00.
Thanks bbgrat
That helps alot. At least now I know, I welded the top holes up along with two Speaker mounting holes that someone drilled. I guess if I can find a replacement cover I will redrill those holes. Otherwise I will just mount the Stainless Strip I got from Tony and hope it looks ok.
Do you know who has a replacement cover for the 62? I've looked but can only find them for 66 and up. Thanks again for the info
I have checked with Chevy2 Only web site and they show a Dash Pad Pt# 71046 Black. They don't give anymore info on it. I'm not sure if it is a hard plastic cover or a padded cover. I would like to get as close to original as possible.
Hey DPsBlue2 could you take a pic of your dash cover and either post it or pm me. I have never seen a 1st Gen cover and am very curious as to what it really looks like.
Just finished up my interior primer today after sand blasting the whole inside. I thought while I had the floor pan out this would be as excellent time to do all this. I'm spraying everything with Black Epoxy Satin Primer. The whole underbody and engine compartment as well as the whole interior and trunk area will get this primer. A little pricey but I don't ever want to do this again.
I have progress pics but don't think I'm permittted to post them as I am a Nubee.

THIS WAS NOT A 'PARTS AD'. This was a post in which I was attempting to describe/explain what the dash pad consisted of., and also that I in fact had the stainless strip that holds the pad in place underneath the dash. I had this piece available to either PM the fellow a pic of what it looked like., or sell it to him if he in fact would have wished to purchase it from me....
Hey Tony I hope I didn't cause a ruckus here. It wasn't my intention to.
I'm just trying to find out what this cover looks like and I appreciate you trying to get that info to me.
