I think I have finally collected all the parts to re-assemble all of my side glass. All new glass, some new re-pop frames, some old parts re-chromed. I need to install all of the glass into the bottom channels and then install the frames. I have the black rubber gasket material (can't remember the name right now) that is used around the glass between the glass and the frames. I have a few questions about installing the glass. Is the glass first glued into the lower channels? What kind of glue do I use? How do I install the black rubber gasket material? Do you glue it in place or is it just a press fit? Do you use soap and water to fit it in place? ANY suggestions or instructions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Ron
Im'm notpossitive on this but I think the black rubber piece is press fit/ glued into the bottom channel and the glass is glued into the rubber. I used black silicone to glue the glass into the rubber. I hope this helps ya.
On my side windows I just place the rubber material over the channel then placed the glass on top, then gently tapped with a rubber mallet. Just that simple...The only liquid sealant I used was on the triangle and I wish now I would have not used it there. The rubber itself is plenty strong enough to hold by itself.
I usually pick up the setting tape from a glass shop. It is kind of like a soft tar paper and comes in different thickness for different glass thicknesses or channel width. No glue used. As said before just tap the glass in the channel with a rubber mallet.
The 1/16" thick window setting tape I have is too thick. I cannot get the glass to set all the way down in the channel without the setting tape being cut. I used lots of soapy water. The materail is just too thick. So I just ordered some thinner material online. Should be here by the end of next week.
Thats good information. I had 1/16" and I ordered 3/64" based on some measurements.
Thanks
Ron
