Im looking to get some new wheels for my car. I have drum brakes in front on my car now. If I buy new wheels now and decide to convert over to disc brakes would the backspacing be off? I don't really want to be buying two sets of rims just because I convert to disc brakes.
Depending on what components you use, the front track will increase around 3/4" wider on each side which means you would need to increase backspace to end up with the same location.
Discs will push your wheels out 9/16 per side If you are not going to wild with the wheels you should have no problems.
BUt if you want to do something realy neet and are planning to run bigger wheels than 16s you can use your spindles and hubs to run 13 vette rotors pretty cheap
I'm thinking of running 17x7 on the front. Would I be better off converting the brakes first then go for the new rims? I don't have the money for both right now but I want to get my car back on the road looking half way decent.
going with 17 inch wheels a brake upgrade would be the first thing to do. IMO
