Hi Mike, No I didn't. Took it to the track one time and it ran 12 something because I didn't heat up the new drag radials good so I went back around and it ran 11.70's and still spun a little off the line. Sold that car and the owner Loves it. I built another 72 and a 383 solid roller with some AFR 210 heads and it is a faster car. Should have been 500 hp or a little over my guess. Have a good one, Johnny

Hey sbc1320, did you ever have your AFR 195 headed 383 run on the dyno? I'm putting pretty much the identical motor together for my Camaro and was just wondering about the output. I'm guessing right around 490-500.

Still here, I'm just south of Kemah/Seabrook and on high ground. We have never ever had this kind of rain here. Opened my shop doors and let it runt thru there. Only had about an inch there. No damage done and all cleaned up. Good thing I bought a kayak a while back(lol).

You can't go wrong with either one of those covers. I have the T/A cover on mine and like the fact that it's very rigid so it will seal good plus it has the support bolts that stabilize the rear main caps also.

Wondering what your thoughts are on the T/A cover. I have chrome now and like the old school look but keep getting some drips. Used the right stuff also to seal.On my second one.Was thinking either T/A or moser

I'm thinking they don't make them for yours or maybe I'm thinking your trunk pan itself. Not really sure. Ask the same question in the body section for your car and somebody with knowledge on your year will chime in on it I'm betting. I haven't owned but one 73/74 and it was 30 years back or so. I have a 72 now. Good luck, Johnny

I posted about the gas tank bracket supports. I can have the underside parts fabricated but I believe that someone has replacement parts for this specifically. Do you have any insight?
    Thanks,

For a mild build you could use the spider and dog bones. For a more radical build you would use the tie bar lifters like I had in the last two 383s and I have them in this one. It would cost you labor for tapping the main holes, plus the cost of the caps, plus around $150 for the line bore. Probably $500 or so complete and for that and less you could get a 4 bolt main block that doesn't need a line bore. You will be fine with the two bolt at your hp level. The Morel 5315 lifters are for LS engines from what I see. Good luck, Johnny

Hey Johnny, My is engine is a roller engine but it came with a flat tappet cam and lifters. If I put a roller cam won't I need to get the spider to hold the retainers in place, the holes are there to bolt the spider tray in. I am putting the Morel 5315 lifter Drop ins in. Do you think I should just go ahead and build the 2 bolt main, or do you think I should put in the splay caps in. Don't know how much it would cost to drill the holes. I need to get more experience. LOL tough decision. Thanks Roger.

Just the highest I could get from our local Valero which is 91 octane I believe. Might try mixing 5 gallons of race gas after I do a test run when I do put the next combo into a 3rd gen.

Hey Johnny, I forgot to ask what octane of gas did you run with either of the combos, I would assume 93 octane or better. Thanks Roger

The new combo is all forged 383(the other one had a cast Scat 9000 crank and forged others) with the same compression of about 10.7:1 compression. It has AFR 210 heads and a Lunati .600 solid roller. I already have the exhaust including Borla 3" mufflers, 3" Pypes x pipe and Flowmaster 3" tail pipes. I also had a converter built for it and it is a 3800 9.5" that will flash 4000-4200 rpms. I also have powdercoated factory control arms that I installed some Global West del a lum bushings. I have a new Quickfuel 850 carb also along with all MSD ignition pieces. I set it up with an FBO 10* bushing so I will give it 26* initial advance. Should go some low 11s easy enough and ought to do some high 10s. Fixing to pick up the front springs from Landrum and I already have new Caltrac bars and shocks.

Hey Johnny, I saw the one from 2 years ago. I haven't seen your latest combo. Is the recent combo alot different. Either way, I will be happy. I will be 57 in October and it really doesn't seem possible, cause I feel like a kid, Lol outside of the aches and pains. Thanks again. Roger

Hey rodII that's funny as I am 56 this year. Anyways not sure which combo you saw, but it was probably for this latest 383. My last 383 about 2 years back ran 11.70s with some AFR 195 heads and a Lunati Voodoo retro hydraulic roller cam(560/565 lift and 243*/251* @.050"). It was a great little combo that could idle all day long and go anywhere I wanted it to. I had a 4.10 gear in it along with a 3800 stall 9.5" converter. Hope this helps you, Johnny
