CA front clip lives up to the hype

I just installed a CA front clip on my 66 nova. The clip went on in about 6 hours. No fabbing, no cutting and fitment was FLAWLESS. About 2 hours of that went into removing powdercoating and chasing threads. I had all the a-arms and subframe double coated. So it got thick by the threads. The hardware included is top notch and the instructions ........ SIK and easy to follow. Now the car is off to get the fire wall filled and painted. Then i can finish the brakes, fenderwells and hood mounts. To anyone that has a doubt about this kit ...... IT IS WORTH THE EXTRA COUPLE BUCKS.

I think you meant a couple grand, right?:D

Not really ...... i looked at the heidts, TCI, Chis Alston and martz. All were VERY close in price once you add all the options. I went with compression and rebound adjustable shocks, sway bar, ls1 engine mounts, 13" drilled and slotted willwoods, hinge mounts and inner fenders. By the time you add all the options up the TCI was the cheapest ,,,,, about a grand less. The heidts and martz are about the same as the CA. So for me and in my opinion the CA is well worth the extra grand over the TCI. The fact that CA cast their own spindles to their specs and not just mustang II should give the car better geometry. That was a big factor to me.

Great news! My only complaint was those cheap stainless bolts.
What brakes did you go with?

i went with the 13" drilled and slotted wilwoods. I will be running 12" drilled and slotted wilwoods in the rear with a wilwood master cylinder.

That is my dream setup, right there!!!

You're right too. By time you add up the Wilwoods and stuff like that on the other clips, CA is right in line with the price.

You guys are making me jealous!!!!

Lemons was the company that had headers for a LSx in the ChassisWorks clip, as well as some of the other clips on the market. Price is not cheap - in the $1200 range.

That's not a bad price for a good set of headers, and it is close to what you will pay for the C.A. standard small block headers.

Just so anyone reading this doesn't get the wrong idea, TCI offers two different front ends one of which does not use anything from a Mustang.

Yeah it will be awhile ........

what is better power or manual brakes on that setup?

I went with manual. Most of the people i spoke to says the car will stop on a dime and the pedal will have a better feel ...... but wont be too stiff.

I think im going manual also, From what i hear they brake just as good as power and i really dont want a power booster under my hood i dont like the looks. Did you go with manual or power steering i went with power but UPS lost it and i may switch? What do you think? Is the manual very hard to steer?

I'm fairly certain that the TCI suspensions all use the same spindles (with regards to distance between ball joints) and are based off the MII geometry; even the coil-over setup. Same goes for the Heidt's stuff.

Hey all, just found this thread. I am awaiting my Cw clip any day now. I went with the manual steering and 4 wheel wilwood disk setup. Cw told me to go with the hooker super comps full length from summit around $500 bucks. Can anyone verify how these fit and work. Im also putting a trick flow top end kit( heads/cam) on my 355. I hope they fit well on the heads?!

The coilover setup from TCI uses '37-'48 Ford spindles which are actually shorter than MII spindles. The a-arms and pickup points are a custom design that does not in the slightest resemble MII geometry(camber gain, roll center, bump steer, scrub radius, anti-dive, alignment adjustments etc). The only camber a MII front end gains is positive :D

Sorry for the late response

I really doubt that considering that pre-'49 Fords used a straight axle up front and the spindles turned on kingpins. No way to use a balljoint with them. ;)
