I noticed that he omitted VIN and trim tag #'s.
Doesn't look like a completely restored interior to me.

5481 built in the U.S. and about 250 in Canada. Mentioning this car was an original L79 (if it even was) is meaningless given it's current state. There should be a rule that you can't call a car an L79 without paperwork proof:rolleyes::rolleyes:.

Y'all, do get excited about this stuff.
If you want to go crazy, just go to the Corvette sight or Camaro sites.
We don't need to be the Nova for sale police!
Just think of all the local adds in all the papers around the world.
Be happy you know the difference, if someone wants a true "CODE" car, they better learn what to look for or just get taken.
It's not your job and no need to get all worked up about it.
IMO!!!

I agree.
Maybe someone would apperciate the info.
I don't feel bad for exposing a scam.
The next person to save may be you!
You never know.
Also Al, how would you feel if someone had watched those thieves when they stoled all your stuff from that storage unit and then say "I'm not the storage unit police".

I'll go ahead and put my two cents in this discussion. What kills me is when people list parts for sale on Ebay and they always put SS and L79 in the description even though it's a part that's common on any of them. I've seen stuff like door handles, speedometer clusters, hoods, doors, shocks, motor mounts, etc listed that way. In the description it might say 1966 Nova Chevy II L79 motor mounts or drip rail molding. It just kills me.

You must have missed the L79 cigarette lighter a few years back. That was classic!

Thanks for the kind comments, BADBOY. The answer to your question is...... I'm 65 years young. I was brought up with these cars. I drooled over L79's in Chevrolet showrooms in 1966 when they couldn't sell 'em, because $3100 was waaay too much money for a Chevy II. Those were the days:).

It sold for $12,000 K The car was also advertised locally on Craigs list,
I know cause I was concidering it until the price went too high for my wallet.
I am defenetly not anywhere near as knowledgable as the experts on here :notworthy:
But from what I have learned, there doesnt seem to be anything platently showing it wasnt a L79, but without documentation or the original engine there will never be ayway to proove it was.
The car has alot of potential even without the L79 claim.
A factory V8 4speed SS with buckets with a straight rust free arizona body.
(also the 327 emblems defenetly seemed original to the car)
This was my amaturish attempt at decoding the car.
VIN = 118376W170631 = (1 = Chevrolet, 18 = Chevy II Nova SS, V8, 37 = 2 door coupe, 6 = 1966, W = Willow Run, MI, 170631 = Production Sequence # Starts at 100001
Cowl tag
O4C (= April) E (= Fifth Week)
66 (= 1966 ) -1 (= Chevrolet) 18 (= Chevy II Nova SS, V8) 37 (= 2 door coupe) Wrn (=Assembly Plant Willow Run, MI) 6313 (= Sequence #)
765 (= Black Buckets) AA (= Tuxedo Black)
C(= B70 Padded Dash) 2L (= Seat Belts)
My bet is it shows up on ebay in the future as an original low mialage L79 with matching numbers

Even if this car is an original L79, it's almost meaningless in it's present state. A little hard to tell from the 'punctuationless' writeup, but it appears it has a 350 in it. Check the rad. Appears to be a cavity where a spacer might have been. No spacer on L79s. So, there's no paperwork and no original engine. Just another 1966 Nova SS that needs lots of work IMO.
Bob
PS to skyroof. Good job on the decode. The 2L denotes 4 speed tranny.

So about 5600 L79 novas + or - were made, BUT now there's now at least about 10,000--possibly more, just because it's so impressive to say you have one or to raise the price of the car to the stratosphere, or the price of your ash tray by labeling it as L79. . I think the L79 thing is worn out. Now when I see L79, I just want to throw up, vomit, & gag !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :puke: :puke: :puke: :horse:

Hey Dale, what's the difference between vomit & throw up?? Anyhoooo, seems I bought a 66 SS from a guy in the Gig Harbor area a while back and he claimed it "was an L79, or coulda been, or maybe was, I think it was!!" That car is now in Ontario................ I told him the same thing!!

No difference, but I'll just add upchuck and heave too. I tried to find the original posting of that car in Gig Harbor, but I couldn't find it. I believe it went something like this: What is a 66 SS L79 clone worth? That car was never represented as an original L79 car, but you're right it could have been. At least that car had probably 90% of the stuff to make it a clone. I think that was about 2 years ago, and the whole L79 thing hadn't gotten so out of control--there were probably only 7000 L79's at that time. I was looking around in the Canadian section, and I was pretty sure I saw the car with its happy owner.

Yeah, ROBINSRIDE in Ontario has it now. He had a 5 speed installed and is enjoying the car. One thing I must say about that car.... all the trim parts, including the SS trunk plate and rocker moldings were immaculate!! Just after I bought the SS, I had an opportunity to get a 64 Plymouth Sport Fury 383-4spd (a car I have always dreamed of owning) and right now am just a week or so away from the road!!! Sounds like you're still having fun!!
