I had a buddy of mine that learned to drive in a red one back in the day.At the time it was a slick family ride.Man it seemed like he circled the block where we lived at least twenty times a day before he got his license.

You folks are missing my point . To my knowledge there were no SS's in 1960.
If I'm wrong let me know. I like learning new stuff. Notice . NO SS,s till 1961.

Absolutely right, Lance. There were no SS's until 1961 and not many of those around, either. I think I heard that only about 450 SS packages were installed in 1961 Impalas and about 100 had 409's. Interestingly, the Chevrolet promo material said that the SS package was available for any of the 5 Impala models in 1961, not just 2 door hardtops and converts.

Thanks Bob. That link up there shows some neat facts on the 61 SS. 149 of the 409 SS's. (if they are all correct).

Point or no point, I delivered what you asked for. Well, I thought I did. You wanted a picture of one and I showed you a link to such a picture. The picture at that link says 1960 Chevrolet Impala SS 4dr pillarless. What is there about that that should make me want to do a history check on Chevrolet's ? You knew when GM started the SS package and I didn't, so naturally I thought I had found what you asked for. Sorry I couldn't deliver.

Hey Guys ,
Sorry if I offended anyone. Didn't mean it like that . Didn't mean to sound like a know it all. I was 12 years old in 1960 and was car crazy. Knew every car, make , model and all that stuff. I just thought it was funny that they called it an SS. Maybe I chose my words wrong. By the way my dad had had a 60 Impala. 283 Power pack. The 1st time I saw a real SS I bout crapped my self. Again sorry if I sounded other than friendly.
