hey im going to be lookign at a 72 nova this weekend that i might be trading my camaro for.is there any specific spots were these novas are prone to rust (like the camaros are aroudn the rear leafsprings) like i know to look at the quarters and all that stuff but i mean like spots specific to this style nova that seem to be particularly bad?

Look in the trunk where the inner wheelwell meets the trunk floor.

Hard to say where they dont rust. I would look at frame mounts, firewall, floor pans, trunk, wheelwells, on and on and on. I would pay attention for a lot of mud in the panels. Sure sign it was a quicky job and there is rust elsewere. Just my .02

Rear quarter panels right behind the wheels, same with the fronts. Check around the front and rear glass for paint that is bubbling. Floor pans (almost always the windshield leaks at some point - this was the only rust on my car) and of course the famous trunk pan.
If the car has a vinyl top, be aware that rust could be hiding underneath.

I've never tried one of these but this tool might help:
http://www.classiccar.com/garage/blog/index.php?/archives/157-Nifty-Tool-Spot-Rot-Gauge.html
I would look at the rockers, look and see how the drain slots are in the bottom of the doors, lower sections of the front and rear floor pan, the area behind the font tire on the fender down low by the rocker molding close to the front of the rocker sill, around the rear wheel openings using your fingers to feel inside the inner lip for it being even, lower inside section of the dash by the windshield caulking, below the rear taillights and the area below it viewed from underneath the car, trunk floor, around the marker lights and front edge of the hood. Also look inside the cowl by the wiper linkage and see if there is any garbage built up on the cowl sides. The cowl sides will be real hard to check without removing the fenders or kick panels.
Maybe look at the package shelf for a warped covering indicating a leak problem from the back glass.
It might also be hard to see but roll down the quarter glass and look down inside the cavity where the glass is down in there and look to see how those drain holes are and if clogged or evidence of any repair. There are two holes in the rocker sills in this area that if they become clogged will rot out the seam between the quarter and the rocker sill right behind the doors lower back corner.

You'll find they rust very simularly to the Camaros,if you've been around Camaros you should have no trouble seeing how good or bad the Nova is.
