If you really want to sell you car and get the most from it one word... CLEAN! A clean car in worse condition than a dirty car in better condition will sell faster. It always amazes me when I see cars for sale and they haven't even washed it, what does that say about the upkeep? I think one of the biggest pet peeves for me when looking at cars for sale is the motor compartments, if it's dirty I pass. It doesn't take a whole lot to cover the carb with a baggie or something, hose it down with Gunk and wash it off. Another one is the carpet, if there's dirt, rocks and used rubbers on the floor I pass.
Here's another thing about selling a car or cars in general. Have you ever noticed that if a car has clean wheels and tires it doesn't matter what the rest of the car looks like; to an extent? I mean you can have the meanest cleanest machine around but if the wheels and tires are dirty it makes the whole car look like junk. Windows are another one, you sit in a car to check it out and if the windows are spotless the whole interior just seems better and you get a better feeling about the car.
Could you get 4K? Sure, clean the thing like you were going to put it in a show. Do the best cleaning you've ever done to it. Buyers will think the car has been taken care of even if it hasn't.
