hey all...
joined the forum some months back and havent contributed anything as of yet. Thought ya'll might be interested in following along with my son and I on our project over the summer months. I'm not a mechanic, nor do I play one on tv, but a computer guy that loves old cars. My son is a bodyman, so that will help when we start finishing things up.

Got new sheetmetal in yesterday and we're going to see how things fit later this morning. will post some pics for now, but will throw up a website in the near future if anybody's interested. We replaced the 6 banger with a 350 and turbo 350 tranny. The car has very little rust, just a little over the rear wheels...frame is absolutely rust-free. the fenders were a little banged up so were replacing them, adding a cowl hood and quarter skins.

Is that the original green color??? If so, looks like it will be a great color. Good luck and enjoy your project.

no...the original color was a pale green.

I thought I would be farther ahead than this... there's been a leak in the transmission seal since I put the new motor in. (my shadetree mechanic friend didnt put a new seal in). My son convinced me now is the time to fix it. So, last Sunday afternoon, out came the motor and tranny. Gonna detail tranny, frame, firewall, radiator support, etc. ...maybe replace ball joints, shocks, install drop springs. who knows where it ends?

anyway, here's the current status.

Father and son projects are always good learning events. My son and I built a 1979 Z28 together with a mild 406 for him to drive in high school and when he graduated we stepped it up w/alum heads more cam/carb etc. He also had another vehicle to drive at this point as the Camaro wasn`t very streetable. He learned quite a lot and we got the Z to run consistant 12.40`s. He has moved on in projects as he now has a Trailblazer SS and is in college working on his masters on Kenisiology. Good luck:D

The '71 would go before the wagon did. There's a 1 1/2 year old grandson that would have a say in that. That was one of my youngest sons first projects in his Machinist class. He made that for his boy. He spent many hours turning out the hubs, installing bearings, etc. and fabbing up the frame. My oldest son (the boy's uncle) flamed and cleared it.
