I'm clueless with this subject.
I've done most everything else on my 72 and now I'm considering tubbing - because I like the look of it and I like the idea of fitting a wide tall tire under there.
I'm actually considering "mini-tubbing" if there is such a thing. Is it possible to keep the back seat in there if I mini-tub it? It's a street car and has a nice black interior and a nice factory black bench seat in back.
I have a stock axle housing back there but have upgraded everything (8.5" 10-bolt posi unit, axles, ring & pinion) etc. I also have Cal-Trac bars back there now. Will I need to change or shorten the axle housing? Do I keep the leaf spring suspension or does that have to go?
I'm looking for guys that have done this that can offer me advice as to what to do and what not to do, and what portion of the work (if any) I should do myself.
I'm very good at working on cars, I've done suspension, engine, trans, electrical, brakes, rear end, etc, but I am not a "fabricator". meaning if sheet metal work is needed, custom fabrication, lots of welding, etc, then I'd rather have a shop do it.
Can someone get me going in the right direction on this please? I also need budget prices. What can I expect this to cost me? If it's going to cost many thousands of dollars I'll probably wait, but if I can do it for a few thousand I'd like to consider it.
