Hi, I am in the process of trying to install a "bolt in" 9" rear end in my 71 Nova. I have figured out the the rear end has a 1310 yoke on it. I need to know what yoke would have came stock on my car so I can purchase the correct conversion U joint. I was guessing that I would need a 1310/1330 u joint. Or did the Nova come with a 1310 u joint on the driveshaft as well? I know that the bearing cap diameter I need for the 1310 yoke on my rear end is 1 1/16". And I know that the cap diameter on my stock driveshaft is a little bigger 1 1/8". But I know that both these sizes can be found on 1310 or 1330 yokes. So basically I need to know if the Nova driveshaft yoke is origanally a 1310 or a 1330. The car is still together so I can't measure it at the moment. Thanks for any info you can help me with.

I did this conversion in the past. The part numbers I have in my records are:

conversion u-joint: 5-134x
straps: 2-94-58x

Unfortunately, I didn't record the manufacturer. Have your driveshaft guy confirm numbers before buying.

My driveshaft has 1310 U-joints front and rear.

Thanks for the help guys, Since I believe the novas came with 1310 u joints, and the 9" yoke I have is also a 1310. I'm thinking I just need a regular 1310 U joint. the only problem I am having is that my orginal 1310 u joint that is on the car has a slightlly bigger bearing cap than the 9" yoke will accept. I believe the difference is only about 1/16. If I buy a u joint with the correct bearing cap size for my 9" yoke will I be able to switch out the other 2 bearing caps from my old u joint and put them on the new one so it fits the driveshaft? Or is it okay to put the slightly smaller bearing cap in the driveshaft?

I am just sure that your original driveline should be 1310, 1 1/16" on all 4 caps by about 3 1/4" across. I would have guessed that the 9" would be 1330 but its very possible that it is 1310 too. Does your original driveline use inside or outside retaining rings & what is the overall length from outside of cap to outside of cap? I honestly dont remember any GM cars in those years using anything else, I'll check at work today & get back. You really shouldnt swap around caps on ujoints, there should be something available that is the right fit.

I checked at work & that original Nova driveshaft should definitely be 1310, I would say that if your caps are bigger than 1 1/16" that is not an original shaft...let me know how you come out on the reatainer clip placement & ujoint sizes & maybe I can help.

Ok it turns out that I am just an idiot.. My u joint was the correct size all along. It is indeed a 1310 and it does fit into my 1310 9" yoke. I just had to get new u bolt straps to hold it in because for some reason on the 9" the bolt holes are slightly closer together than the 10 bolt.
I really appreciate the help you guys have given me, Thanks a lot! Now I'm off to get some Ubolt bent up for the housing so I can get this thing bolted in.

It is always good when it is cheap and easy to fix.
