hipochevys 18th-May-2008, 08:43 AM I want to convert my 72 to discs in the front but the cam that will be in the engine will not work well with a booster. Is there anyone out there that has done a disc brake conversion and ran with no booster? If so who's kit and how do you like it? I do not want to run a pump or can. Any ideas would be great.
Thanks
Jay
The Big Al 18th-May-2008, 09:14 AM I am 100% happy with no booster!
I have said many times, the 4 wheel disc is the best money ever spent on my car 'PERIOD"!
Mike Goble 18th-May-2008, 09:17 AM You could get stock non-boosted disc brakes on Novas.
3DTim 18th-May-2008, 09:30 AM I am running no boost on mine. I am running the BAER setup.
TuBaDuB 18th-May-2008, 09:44 AM I run no booster. I did a write up in the best of steering and suspension
and list the kit I used from cpp
bowtie0069 18th-May-2008, 10:12 AM Aerospace front discs, no booster. No girls drive my car, so no booster is needed.
Lgian 18th-May-2008, 11:04 AM I was lucky enough to have 15 Hgs of vac on the youngsters car so I put the booster on. I ran a big block with a big cam years back no vac so no booster. As long as you have front disc and the right master cylinder they work good and it has i think a cleaner look. Just remember the manual brake setups used a smaller diameter piston I am quessing to give less pedal effort and higher psi. I tried a M/C that was on a power booster and it required a lot of pedal effort. I would think 4 wheel disc would be awesome power or not.

Who's brakes are you using Al?
nova656567 18th-May-2008, 01:56 PM Wilwood 4-wheel disc brakes, no booster. Works great.
CPP front discs, no booster. Also works great.
The Big Al 18th-May-2008, 05:38 PM Who's brakes are you using Al?
I have Master Power Brake.
I picked them because they are close to me and there units use factory parts. So you can get replacement pads and stuff at your local parts store.
THEY ARE A MANUFACTURE! Not a re-box company!
Their business also is all the NASCAR boys, they are in the middle of Mooresville, NC Race shops. And they are the manufacture of 99.999% of all Kart Racer systems.

Works great!
tdbutler 20th-May-2008, 09:56 AM i am also running in to this situation. i bought a complete set. i got my booster and mast.cyl. from jegs, but in afterthought, im not sure i will be able to get the vacuum i need. so im thinking about just throwing the discs on front and keeping it manual. plus, i did get some 2" drop spindles out of the deal, so i'm happy either way
tbills66 22nd-May-2008, 02:43 PM I do not run a booster either. My kit came from The Right Stuff Detailing. The pedal effort is no different than it was with the 4 wheel drum system but stops much better.
gmracing355 22nd-May-2008, 03:40 PM Im halfway there. I run areospace brakes on the front with no booster and I will be ordering thier rear kit soon.

Mark Keenum 22nd-May-2008, 04:04 PM You don't need no steenkin' booster.
(Wildwood 4 wheel disc's w/Wildwood m/c)
sterho 22nd-May-2008, 05:17 PM Ditto on the Wilwood 4 wheel disc. I have their 7/8" MC as well and my 71 stops great without alot of leg.
Sage 22nd-May-2008, 07:30 PM I did not run a booster on my set up. 98+ F-body fronts (LS1 car) and 93-97 F-body rears. 73 corvette manual brakes MC, wilwood prop valve. The only thing I would change next time is changing the brake line from the front to the back to a smaller line. I had a hard time getting the rears to lock up even with the prop valve all the way open.

64PRONOVA 22nd-May-2008, 07:58 PM Use a vacuum reservoir if you want power brakes.
I ran one on my loping roller-cammed Elky and the power brakes worked perfectly. I run Wilwood discs on all 4 corners on my 64 with no booster though and they are fine.
strtlegal 24th-May-2008, 02:30 PM no booster on mine 13.5" rotors dual piston calipers, no stopping issues...im running the cpp which the bore is to big so ill be switching to a wilwood 7/8's real soon..those things mob..
just put a wilwood m/c 7/8" bore on it and call it good..you can actually run a m/c with the same bore from like an s10 for about $30. but a small bore works good.
