73-nova

Hey I've got a 73 nova with a 6 cyl. and powerglide tranny and I'm looking to put a newer fuel injected chevy engine and a 5 spd. in it. I want to get a wrecked camaro or vette and transfer everything over. I'm wondering about the rear end. Will a vette or camaro rear end fit in the nova? Is there any way to shorten the axle and carriers to make it the same length as stock. Any help or tips would be greatly appretiated.
Thanks.

depends on what ryear, i know the 67-69 camaro rears will fit but then second gen rear end is to wide and the shock mounts are in a different place I think. other then that I think everything will require some modification.

What rear do you have in it now? It could be an 8.5 which is a good rear end! If you look at the cover from the rear and see 2 little triangle shapes at 4 and 8 o clock that arent covered by the cover then you got an 8.5! 67-69 camaro rear is 8.2 10 bolt and 12 bolt! the 8.2 is weak compared to the 8.5!

Yeah I think that I do have an 8.5 in it, but will I need to change the gearing for it to handle a V8. Also I'm trying to make it a decent driver so I want it to drive good on the freeway. Is it still a good rear end for that?

you can also learn alittle more about rear-end's,and other nova related things at novaresource.com they supply plenty of info on the site.bob.

You should have an 8.5 and if you install a Eaton posi with moser axles, it will just about as strong as a 12 bolt. That's what I did..

It's known that the 8.5s can handle some abuse if they're built right. Grabbing a late model drivetrain from a Vette or Camaro is a good thing. Grab whatever you want from the car, sell the rest, and put some money toward having a shop do a good rebuild of your 8.5 with a posi and similar gears from the Vette or Camaro.
