A 73 harness and a 71 harness are not the same. Ask me how I know.

Yep, I found out the hard way. Although the harness look identical and plug right into each other, they are opposite and just totally different. Wiring wise, what else is different? I have put the 71 harness back into my car (my car is a 71) but I still have some pieces from the 73 in my car (pieces inside the column and the entire cluster is from the 73). I have been tearing my hair out of my head trying to get this wiring straightened out...Is a 72 harness the same as a 71? Because the electrical section has a diagram/schematic for a 72.

None of them are,it's one of the biggest pains with these cars.My 69 and 70 aren't compatable either:(.

I found a fuseblock and harness in a 70 to use for my 70:)
Mine had a/c origionally ....other did not.....different fuseblock and block under hood:mad: with a little work and time(as well as swearing) it came together:)

If you need the 73 harness to run your column and dash then use that harness. As for the compatability of the engine compartment harnesses, you'lll have to remove the wires from the block (release the pins, they come right out) and figure out which one needs to go where and reinsert them. It'll take some time, but it's not that hard. Here's a hint, the wires on both sides of the block should eb the same color, they should match up as they go thru the junction block.

Yep, already did it and got it all done with the 73 harness. Everything works besides my dash lights, but I'm pretty sure it's due to my headlight switch. Everything else works.
