I am trying to decipher the VIN and Cowl Tag numbers on a 69 Nova I purchased. It has SS emblems but I do not believe it to be a SS. Any Help would be appreciated.
VIN: 114279W341864 deciphers as:
1= Chevrolet
14= Nova 8 Cyl.
27= Sport Coupe 2-Door
9= 1969
W= Willow Run, DE
341864= Assembly/serial Number
Cowl Tag: 69 1 14 27 WRN 165009

well with a '69 you cannot tell if its an SS by the vin tag or cowl tag. To truely know if it is you would need original documentation like the POP, or dealer paper work etc. BUT you can take, based of various information, an educated guess as to if it is or not.
The Nova Resource website has clues you can look for to help you make that educated guess.

Thanks, it seems I will never know as the front brakes are Wilwood discs. Thanks for the info!

Only about 1100 non SS's in 69 came with dual exhaust,check for a welded plate on the outside of the driverside frame rail just behind the upper shock mounting point.There is no way other then paper work to be sure though.

See if you can find the build sheet. Either under the rear seat (in the springs) or above the gas tank.
