is there a big performance difference between a shorty header and a full length header and this would be going from stock manifolds?

Other member can explain this better, but I believe the long tubes are better for torque and a prefered if space permits.

ya i kind of got that from reading it but i kind of want to go to the shortys cause i dont want to hassle with the long tubes unless it's a noticeable difference

Thought about Tri Y's? all the benefits and non of the Hassle

i would go for long so you want lose torque. but i also want shortys cause i want to put cutouts on. with my headers now there was no room from those two bar looking things under the car. cant think of what they are called.

I have long tubes and I don't like them. They hang below my subframe and now that I lowered the front end some they tend to drag on speed bumps. I'm looking for a set of shortys to put on mine...

Ditto here. The collectors often scrape, and not only over speed bumps! When I come to a steep dip in the road they sometimes scrape.

so will there be a power difference between the manifolds and shorties?

it should improve with shortys over plain manifolds.

You'll see an improvement over manifolds for sure, but unless you are running a real hi-po motor, stick with the shortys and don't deal with the hassle of full length headers. Maybe at most you'll see a few HP improvement with FL....and that's a big maybe. not worth it IMHO.

You didn't give many specifics on your engine. Anything is better than your stock manifolds. In most cases, long tub headers are better. There are cases where the shorty and tri-Y's are best.
I will say my Dougs headers clear the floor boards and don't extend below the frame. I did have to relocate the idler arm 1/2 inch thought. They provide easy access to all plugs and the starter.

What cam do you have? More importantly, what is the operating range of the cam?

I don't think you have enough motor to see a big difference between the long tubes and the shortys. I know I don't and that's why I'm switching to shortys eventually. If my long tubes fit right I would be fine with keeping them too.

IMO I would stay with the long tubes. If you had more of an RV cam, I would go with the shorties or tri-y's. Ask around for how headers fit. Keep in mind motor mounts, engine towers, body bushings and raised exhaust ports will affect how they fit. Be specific in the brands and part numbers on the brands.

Tri "Y" will make more torque, 4into1 will make more hp... 360 degree headers do both.
However the difference is not very noticeable.... buy what you what... its a street cruzer....... your not out on the weekends looking for a sucker.
