I took my dash out today to check the fuel gauge. What a pain in the butt. It works fine and after all of that, the issue turned out to be a broken wire on the sending unit. Now I have to put my dash back together and put the tank back in the car tomorrow lol. If this isnt fun, I dont know what is. But at least i will know how much fuel is in the tank now :D.

First time I did a 3rd gen grill was like that,I think I took it apart 3 times before I got it right!:oI'm going to do my interior over the winter months.I'm thinking, seats, dash pad, head liner, and door panels.

Good luck with the winter project. I need to re-cover my front seats and get a new steering wheel. The rest is good enough for me.

Oh, the dash install went in a lot easier then it came out. I actually knew how it went together so it went pretty quick. The best part is, it doesn't rattle anymore! Now I don't have to beat on the dash going down the road because its driving me crazy. I put a sending unit in the gas tank, put the tank back in the car and reassembled and installed the dash all in about 2 hours. I spent 5 hours yesterday taking out the dash, dropping the tank, and finding the issue with the fuel gauge.

Try dropping a 24 gallon K5 gas tank you 'assumed' was empty, only to find it isnt...

Tell me about it. I just re did my entire interior on my 74. What a pain in the ***. So many more screws than I thought. The hacksaw was looking pretty inviting when I was trying to figure out the window handle clips.

I had cracked and faded panels all around. I sprayed them with truck bed liner and now they look brand new, and black. WAY better than the beige that was crumbling. The vinyl strengthened everything. The roof carpet is a pain. It's just old particle board that crumbles too. I had to hold cardboard up there with thin metal rods. The carpet is holding now. Just leaving to go pick up another roll. later.

Man,,, I hate to hear about the dash project being so hard... I am planning on changing my dash out to one from a Nova built in Argentina. I'm not really looking forward to the work,, but looking forward for the result..

It actually wasnt that bad. The only problems I had was unhooking the speedometer cable and the heater vent cable. Just drop the steering column down first or it will be impossible. Then get out the socket set and screwdrivers and go to town.

Guy's,
It's a easy job.
Unhook battery.
Pull the radio.
Unhook dash lights/gauges connector, light switch and wiper switch (these all snap in).
Remove the ground wire.
Unhook speedometer cable (spring clip)
Pull heater controls (3 screws) and let it hang.
Pull the steering wheel.
Remove the shift and turn signal levers (1 screw & 1 pin - drive the shift lever pin out from the bottom).
Remove the plastic trim cover over the bottom of the steering column (if it's even there 2 screws).
Drop the steering column, just don't force it too far down or you will tear the rag joint. This is why you remove the steering wheel and column levers.
Remove the screws and pull the whole bezel/speedometer section out.

If you have ac you need to unhook the vent on the left.
If you have a '68 you have to unhook the ignition too.

Dash pad isn't much more work.
Remove the glove box.
Remove the 2 screws and 5 speed nuts.
Pull the dash pad towards the rear of the car to unhool the spring clips.
The pad has to come back then up to remove it.

I got it from Martin of Argentina in exchange for one of our dashes. And then I sent it to ioldsnut.

Hey ioldsnut, is that a picture of it installed in your car? Or is that a picture from Martin?
