hey gang, need some help here. im in the process of doing a tranny swap, TORQUE DRIVE/PG to a th350. the deal is kinda simple as far as doing the swap it self. but heres the deal, the th350 only shifts 1 time, and it dont have a dentent cable or a kickdown cable to it. it only has the shift linkage, vacuum, and speedometer cable plugged to it. we have driven this tranny before in a 70 c10 truck for awhile and it ran that way just fine. but i thought it was a PG tranny because it only shifted 1 time. now that we have it out of the truck, come to find out its a th350. trust me, shocked the heck out of me. im putting this tranny in a 68 nova and im going to use a hurst floor shifter. im assuming when i install the shifter ill find out if i can use all the gears right? so far ive changed the seals and gasket on it. and i still plan to use it the way it is. but if anyone has any idea why it wouldnt shift twice,
speak! and when i install the shifter, do i have to use the kickdown cable or dentent cable to operate the passing gear? thanks for any help coming.

What are you using for a shifter now? Has this Trans. ever worked as it should? Are you sure it's a TH350?
Lemme know!

the shifter used in the truck is as order, PRNDL, on the coulmn. the shifter im going to use is a hurst pg and all turbohydramtic trannys. no it has not worked like it should have, like a 3 speed th350, it worked like a Pg. and yes im sure its a th350 because i had to switch the seals and gasket to fit the th350 with 13 bolts. what we are trying to figure out is why it didnt shift 2 times. and o yeah, just remembered something, where the kickdown/dentent cable goes, its just plugged up. so, maybe thats part of the reason it didnt shift properly to begin with. on my nova, its column shift aswell. its as order, PRN hi 1st, just like that. but that will no longer be used. well, maybe to back up, lol. u know, lights! keep asking away with any questions, aslong as we get to the bottom of it before i install it. thanks.

The good news- if you took it apart I bet you could fix it for less than $50.
The bad news-you have to take it apart:yes:
It could be a number of things: improper assembly, sprag, or even a $1 piston seal.
I wonder if the shifter wasn't adjusted in the truck, it might not have had enough travel seeing as it was originally a PG?????????

With the shifter disconnected does the TH350 shift by hand, meaning, grab the shift fork on the side of the tranny and take it through PRND21...

Rechedtone, i did shift it by hand on all the gears. it shifted just fine to me. no hang up's, or snag's when i did it. i hope its a good thing? and any more help would be great! its just that i do believe ill have it in by the afternoon coming. got some help on the way. the engine is in allready, just need to bolt up the tranny and start bolting everything back up, wires, alt., etc etc. so far its going good, and thanks for the help guys. keep it coming.
