No power steering and no A/C on an LS1??? My hero!! That is what I want to do. What pulleys, alternator, tensioner, and belt did you run???

Thanks!!

Is that trunk paint on the fire wall. Your doing great work looks great.

MeanYellowZ
3rd-May-2008, 02:50 PM
Firewall paint is trunk paint, for some reason I end up going back to that everytime because it looks okay, covers everything and holds up pretty well....

here's one of the S10s I had and recently sold...

As far as the belt setup, my buddy water jetted that alternator bracket out to use a stand GM CS style alternator from a TPI or TBI style setup, which is a VERY common alternator. That bracket is two pieces, he is going to try and figure out how to make it one piece and then we will probably sell some of them very reasonably.

What did you do for exhaust manifolds? I'm thinking of dumping my turbo 4.3and putting my T76 on an LS motor.

I just noticed you got rid of that hump the windshield wiper mounts to.
Did you have a clearance issue with the LS?

great work, but kind of a small downpipe for that holset. I run a 4" on my BMW and it only makes 500hp. Turbos like very large, low pressure exhausts.

I know a few guys that run that turbo on their 2.5-2.7l BMW motors and have been very happy with it... big power potential.

Wow that thing is awesome! Been thinking about doing an ls1 in my 63. What wiring did you use? Only a couple hours away from you here in Iowa, might have to slip over sometime check that bad boy out if you don't mind!!

With all that heat under the hood are you going to be able to keep it cool. How big is your radiator.

MeanYellowZ
12th-May-2008, 01:02 AM
thanks for the comments guys. Somehow that stock little radiator has kept the car at 175 in the hottest days so far (85*) in stop and go and sitting traffic. I am very impressed with how well everything is going so far :)

What a great job you have done on the motor and engine compartment. Have you figured out what you are going to do for a front support on the passenger side? Looks a little tight in there. What size intercooler did you go with and what are the inlet and outlet sizes? Will you be able to squeeze in a valance?

Great job! I see that you're just over in the next state (NE-IA), I'd like to see that car first hand someday! :)

thanks again for the compliments.

I'm gonna have the left side support custom bent up, and it will attach to that side of the front frame in two spots, instead of just one

Intercooler is a cheapie ebay unit, 4" thick with 3" inlet and outlet. I have logged some pulls out in the heat and the IAT went from 84* DOWN to 77* under boost during some 3rd gear pulls.

I am going to order a fiberglass valance and trim it where the intercooler sits. Still have a lot to do in the cosmetic department, but not too concerned for now. Still working on getting a hood on the car.

MeanYellowZ,

Nice work! The trunk paint looks good. Did you use a TCI clip? What did you use for engine mounts?

Thx, Ed

Frontend on mine is Heidts. Motor mounts are solid from Moroso with adapter plates from my boys at CarShopinc

Very Nice! This may sound kind of dumb or I may have missed it but how does it drive with one of the clip supports gone?

really I haven't noticed. I drove it for a bit at first without either side, now I have one. The car is in a pretty apart state anyway, odd tires, not aligned yet, etc. I havent put much energy into that part of it, just working out engine type bugs as of now. I have driven it back and forth to work almost every day lately and tonight I got my hood hinge mounts, so hopefully I can drive it with a hood later :)

Great project! I can't wait to see some vids with a little more tire out back.

What size inducer on the compressor side? Are you using HP tuners to tune it?

With all that heat under the hood are you going to be able to keep it cool. How big is your radiator.

Keep in mind that the only time it will be creating lots of heat is at WOT, and it's pretty apparent he can't keep it WOT very long.

this is bad ***!!! im a huge turbo guy .. i have a mustang with a t76 that makes 750rwhp theres nothing like turbo power!!! im also doing a 67 nova with a ls1 right now !!! well as soon as i get more money i have the car just not the motor yet.. you gave me ideas for sure ... what size/ manufacture turbo is that?? what are you expecting to make hp wise? and was there no way to fab around the other support or you just didnt feel like making it harder for your self? and the motor looks great what color did you use and what kind of paint was it does it stand up to the heat?

aron69nova
3rd-June-2008, 02:04 PM
what are you gonna do about the passenger side front strut from the firewall to the subframe? that seems like it might not be very strong?

MeanYellowZ
13th-June-2008, 01:27 PM
The motor paint is graphite wheel paint and it holds up fine. As far as the passenger support it will be fabbed up soon. I have not had a chance to mess with it much since I have been building a 96 Vette with a big LS1 turbo setup....weeeeeee

OK!!

I have been missing these great builds. There should be a "Sticky" section just for builds. With Build posts they can go for some time without any work or posts and they get lost at the bottom..

You have done a real nice job of pluggin that power plant in there... I like seeing a turbo job, most folks (including myself) are intimidated when the "turbo" word is brought up. But you show its a totally doable project..

Cant wait to see the back half build, and yeah, yer gonna need a back half with that big pump!!! JR
