I did a search for this and didn't find anything so if it's out there please don't flame me :D

Anyway. In the latest installment of "Nova" I saw the 8.2 rebuild on the 11 second '67 Nova. I've also seen 8.5 builds that claim the same strength of a stock 12-bolt.

Would it be worth it to find an 8.5 and build that instead of building my original 8.2? Or could I expect the same durability and longevity out of either or?

Also, I want to go with a multi set-up to replace the mono. Same question 8.5 with multi perches or 8.2 with modified perches?

I probably won't be pushing more than 450 hp through a
T56 transmission for those that need to know.

Thanks in advance!

The 8.5 is the stronger of the 2.There are many people that have proven it's strength, from all I know I would say 8.5.

I would go with the 8.5. There are 8 and 9 sec cars running the 8.5.

in a manual car I would go with a built up 8.5.

Keep the 8.2" and rebuild it with a new Eaton LSD, Moser axles and Richmond gears. You'll never break it unless you have a habit of dumping the clutch at 6000rpm with the rear axle unloaded.

Replace the stock springs with fresh mono-leafs and Competition Engineering traction bars.

Most of the stuff on these cars is plenty good with fresh parts.

If you do decide to do the 8.2, here's a thread on it:

I would not build the 8.2. I have broken too many with the 4 speed. I would build the 8.5 and it probably would cost about the same.

Alot of good views in here. The cost would probably be about the same to build either one except for the cost of the 8.5 itself.

Doubtful if I'll ever see 8's or 9's  but it would be nice to know I would have an axle that would support that. I'm mainly building the car not so much for the strip but an around town Rice Eater

Photoman, interesting to see you say to keep the 8.2 and mono setup. Is this a personal testament of what you did with yours? If so, how's it holding up?

Greg R thanks for the link to that. The first one is one I've seen and that second one has a good set-up as well. Love that clear differential cover!

ive been thinking about this very same thing. my motor should make around 425 hp once i get it tuned properly, and i have a 150 shot of nitrous coming...really wondering if the 8.2 has any hope. i would really like to wait till next year to do the diff but i guess we will see. my current 8.2 has summit gears, richmond mini spool and moser c clip axles. my way of thinking is if an 8.5 will go 9's then you would think the 8.2 should be able to go 11.0...but what do i know??:)
