Guys!

What would you say is the easiest and best way to lift the rear end about an inch with a leaf spring rear? Extended shackles? Spacers?

I want to lift the rear of my T-Bird around a 1/2" to 1" to get the rake right. Any suggestions?

I guess you could do either of those. I would think the best way would to have the leafs arched changed. The easiest would probably be air-shocks or spacers. But with spacers, you would probably have more wheel hop.

The trick way would be to add coil-over shocks with fifty Lbs. springs and adjustable valving.

I was wanting to raise the rear about 1" and had some old 3" Mr. Gasket shock extenders laying around and put them on the rear of my Nova - didn't raise the stupid thing at all. How can that be?

For some interesting results, go to Google images and search for 'butt lift'.....

They are just 3" blocks that mount above the shocks - I thought maybe it would result in a little lift. Instead, they actually compressed the shocks, instead of extending them. Maybe I need better shocks ... :D

I say cut the front coils to get a 1" drop and Voila! You'll be 1" higher in the rear. :D

When you took the shocks off did it fall on the ground?

The shocks don't hold up the car; you can throw them away and the ride height won't change--the springs hold the weight.

Yeah, no kidding. But you can also adjust ride heights with shocks .. ie. - air shocks, adjustable coil overs, 2X4 wedged in there, etc. May not be the preferred method. I know my leaf springs are now 15 years old and probably in need of replacement or re-arching.

Blocks would lower the car not lift it. Our diffs mount above the springs. longer shackles, air shocks, new springs if yours are just sagging from age, re arched springs are all possible solutions.

I have I pair of 6" shackles. If I throw them on, I don't "need" new shocks to compensate do I?
