I have looked for a thread about this for a while but couldnt find one, so Ill ask it again as Im sure its fairly common.
I have heard before that these cars were notorious for having been built unsquare with how the rear axle relates to the rest of the body.
This was for traction correct? Well My problem with my 74 is that there is about a one inch difference in the distance between the leading edge of the tire and the rear edge of the rocker panel. My axle is centered to my satisfaction, but having That large of a differece between the tire and rocker really bugs me.
What is involved in correcting this? is it as simple as drilling a new hole in the spring perch and moving it forward and an alignment, or is there more? The front spring mounts seem to be approximatly in the same place, would moving these help? Thank you all in advance.

What they mean is left to right the axles aren't always even---not front to back. Your car has either been wrecked and not repaired correctly, or as mentioned, maybe the 1/4 panel was installed incorrectly.
And no, you don't build a crooked car to improve traction......unless you're a circle track racer!

I'd look into your how your diff is mounted on the leaf spring. There may not be a centering or locating pin on the springs and the diff has slid forward on one side. If you aren't using U-bolts consider it, the factory t-bolts might not be cutting it. Drill the spring perches and shock plates out to 1/2" and get some 1/2" U-bolts.

The quarter panels have not been replaced yet, and I cant find any evidence of a major accident at all on the rear of the car. The car was involved in some sort of front end collision as the hood and fenders it had when I bought were tan underneath the green. I will try replacing the T-bolts as they are still there. What about moving the axle forward on the one side, can this cause any problems I am unaware of? Thanks

You haven't sheared off the pin in the spring that lines up everything have you?
