I just installed Flaming River's close ratio steering box and tilt column. What a huge difference from the stock 6 turns! The kit came with everything. Just a few modifications needed to make everything work. Removing the original gearbox with the long shaft was a bear - had to remove everything but the tail lights. Below is the link to this kit if anyone is interested.
I will be putting one on in the next couple weeks...
How was the header and exhaust clearance? Did you have to do any fabrication to make the kit work? Are you using stock steering linkage with a bearing kit?
Thanks!

I still have the original exhaust manifolds. I had to remove the driver's side motor mount and jack the motor up to remove the original box. Even with that, I could only get the box out enough to cut the long shaft with a reciprical saw, then it dropped out on my arm - lesson learned. Count on lowering your exhaust, removing your clutch linkage (if manual) and jacking the engine. The new Corvette box interfered with the clutch linkage just a bit, so I had to move the linkage toward the firewall about 1/2 inch, but no big deal there-just 2 new holes. Removing the old box was definitely the hardest part of the job. As far as the column, the only modification was to the new mounting bracket that came with the kit. I had to cut about 1/2 off of the top to clear the brace under the dash. You can't see that part anyway, so no big deal. The directions that came with the kit are good, but it would have been helpful if they included pictures. Sorry - I did not take any pictures, but I can if you need to see some before you order your kit. I may need a tutorial on how to post pictures. I found the best deal at JDS Performance, $916.30, plus about $20 for shipping.

Will this steering box work with an original steering column and a rag joint ? Does it have splines or the dd shaft ? And why do you have to have the adapter plate ? Thanks

This is the only Nova I've owned so I don't know if it will work with other columns. Good question about the adapter plate. I didn't try mounting it without the plate, but it may work if you drill another hole. I bought mine from JD's Performance out of Ohio. Dave, the customer service guy, is really helpful and can probably get you answers.

The box kit will not work with an original column, and the original column never came with a rag joint. The box is a corvette steering box with splines (I dont know what size or count). You have to use the adapter plate for a bolt on application.

Does the stock steering wheel fit the flaming river column?

I know a 66 doesn't have a rag joint. A 66 shaft is made to the box. What about a 67 column? A 67 column shaft is seperate from the box. How does the flaming river column shaft attach to the box?

Sorry I read your original post incorrectly. The 67 column has a different mount under the dash than the 62-66, so the new column will not bolt up. The kit comes with a steering shaft and 2 u-joints that attach the column to the box. The new column is much shorter to get the proper angle and attach the column to the box without binding. The new box input shaft is positioned differently than the stock Nova box, so the stock column will not work.

The original steering wheel does work with the Flaming River column. I did have to mix some old horn parts with new to make the horn work, but no big deal.

i bought their gearbox and column kit last summer but have not installed it yet...did not even open the box...
seems like a tought install when you have a showcar engine compartment+ clutch linkage+ brakebooster.
tell me more about the clutch linkage relocation required, did you figured it out yourself or it is explained in the manual that come with the kit

What he said!!!!
Maybe when Bryan (NOGO) does his install he'll provide pics
(hint, hint)
I'm very interested in this set-up, just wondering if my fenderwell headers are gonna create any problems.

The column mount will not fit a 67 so I am not using this kit. The box is a little bigger than stock, plus there is a mounting bracket in between the frame rail and the box, so i am skeptical about chassis headers fitting. I called Flaming river and they said this kit works with exhaust manifolds and shorty headers.
