BORDERBUM 11th-February-2008, 11:31 AM I KNOW I am going to be in the minority, but I love the look of the old school rake and big meats under the back.....I know I may be in for a chewing, but I am going to go old school with MY Nova....I have a set of 15x10 Slotted mags and Ill run 15x8 slotted mags on the front. chriss68 11th-February-2008, 04:13 PM I have my '68 set-up with the old school look. i currently have it apart now because i am repainting it. i have air-shocks and shackles on the rear-end to clear my 295/50/15's. i also have big block springs n the front to lift the front, so there is not much rake, but itgives it a nice gasser look. also i am putting on a cowl induction scoop.
big dog ss 11th-February-2008, 05:19 PM i love that red nova, just add an inch or two to the front and it would be perfect!!
Baddbob 11th-February-2008, 05:44 PM Reminds me of high school:yes: Everyone had 14" shackles, airshocks, ET or Crager mags and really messed up front end alignment.
I agree, I like the up in the air musclecar look with just a slight rake but when you lift them like this the tierods go to some severe angles and bump steer gets bad, and usually getting the right amount of caster and camber is tough.
I say if you're going to lift it then do it right so you still get some good suspension and steering geometry-this will involve some modifications but worth it IMO. Also those shackles and airshocks can really mess up your pinion angle/driveshaft angles.
ALLT4 11th-February-2008, 06:27 PM Personally I love the old school look and am tired of seeing slammed riding in the weeds Foose style cars... borrring! I really couldn't give a crap what people think of the old rake look, I like it and am going to do it. I posted this chop in our 4th gen section and it didn't go over too well, I don't care, I love the cars I've seen in this thread. Give me a REALLY high rear end and shackles, love it! Hell I may even paint the diff cover flourescent orange.

For the record, I think the old school cars look cool...But that's where it ends. I'd rather my car work correctly and go fast than look a certain way. My car may look like a cookie cutter Nova with Pro Stars and a big cowl hood, but that's how I like it. I'm trying to be different by painting it a unique color scheme:D

chevy72nova 11th-February-2008, 09:33 PM i know where theres a 73-74 drag car sitting in the mud at a house in a nearby town to me. it has the vintage look with big radiused rear quarters and huge slicks on old cragar super tricks and the giant snorkel hood. it has "Perfection Plus" painted in gold lettering on the door. looks like it has been sitting for quite some time. i talked to the owners son briefly and asked if they'd sell it but he said to come back when his father was home. im sure theyve been asked a hundred times already but who knows. i plan on going back soon and trying again.

chevy72nova 13th-February-2008, 06:39 PM id also like to know your tire size and rear wheel size and backspacing. stock width rearend? also how did you get the front up in the air. I was planning on using some big block moroso trick springs that I already had. I figured with the small block and all fiberglass up front it would sit pretty high.
also how long are the rear shackles?
BillsNogo 13th-February-2008, 10:16 PM I love the old school look. Get an L-88 hood, aluminum slots (LOVE those rims!) rwl tires, vented side pipes and I would be in 70's heaven!
When I was mini-tubbing my 69, I had some 15x10 aluminum slots that I was going to run 325-50-15's on. I kind of wish I would have finished that car :o
nukledragger 14th-February-2008, 12:02 AM id also like to know your tire size and rear wheel size and backspacing. stock width rearend? also how did you get the front up in the air. Tire size is 28x12.5 MT ET Streets.
Rear wheels are 15x7. I specifically used 15x7 because that is the size chrome reverse wheel they used in 1970 (even though the 15x8 may have looked better), 15x8 hadn't come along yet. The backspace is 4".
Rearend is stock width 12 bolt with 6 inch shackles.
Chevy72Nova - I agree with your spring choice. The lightweight motor with the big block spring should work well. Mine's a big block, so I went with new big block springs, ball joint spacers, and a 1 inch spacer under the springs.
I found some original 1970 car magazines that had some Novas with straight axles, so that's what I'm going with next.
Let me know if I can help further.
Keep the pics coming.......

BORDERBUM 15th-February-2008, 02:32 PM I put some 6 inch shackles on mine yesturday and it looks like I have about 1.5 inchs of clearance on my 295/50/15s I only have Monroe air shocks on there now, and am going to put the HI Jacker ones on there and hopefully raising it 2 more inchs or so will still keep a decent ride. It does have a little "sway" in it, so I may have to lift more with the shock and only use the 4 inch settings on the shackles....
chevy72nova 15th-February-2008, 04:19 PM nukledragger, thanks for the information. id really like to see how they look with the straight axle as well. i havent really seen any 68-74s with straight axles besides the one in earlier in this thread.
