The tko 600 tremec i have in my 70 nova doesn't seem to be strong enough for my 600 hp 496(broke 3rd gear). Thinking about changing over to a viper spec 6 speed. Has anyone done this or know of someone who has? What all was involved?

Shankin, is the Viper trans stronger than a TKO600? Will you be selling the TKO-I might be interested. Bob

As far as I know the TKO600 is stronger than the ZF 6 speed. Did you break 3rd gear, or did you rip out the syncro and engagement teeth? Do you powershift or use the clutch? When I talked to the guys from Trmec a couple of years ago, they told me that the syncros were still the weak point since people want an easy driving transmission. You may need to either have a few of your gears pro-shifted, or step up to a dedicated race transmission like a Jericho or a Liberty. Maybe (and don't be offended by this please, I've been guilty of this as well) you're just not shifting correctly. I'd find out exactally what broke and maybe get in touch with the company you bought the TKO from. JMHO.

I dont race it but i do love to bang the gears in it. It has for sure killed 3rd gear and the cluster. I have owned a few pro shifted tranmissions and for sure dont want that in my street car. I was looking at the viper spec 6 speed because we have a couple of heavy cars at work that make well over 600 and stay together. Not trying to brag but i can get through the gears with the best of them. I just want something i can beat on every now and then and not break.

Repaired the 600 today. Killed the cluster,3rd gear, and the case. Stuck it back in just for a little while until i gather everything for the 6 speed.
