My name is Jeff, I'm pushing 30 (this year), and I'm married. Been with my wife for almost eight years, married for 3 of them. I have a son, he is seven. Soon to be eight in April. I used to be in the import scene. Well, still kinda am. I built DSM cars (Eclipse, Talon, and Lasers (D iamond S tar M otors) for those who didn't know). I've had a muscle car sort of upbringing from where I live (southern middle TN by the way), alot of people round here have muscle cars of some sort. My father had a 69' 6cyl 3sp Camaro. !HAD!! Till he loaned it to his brother. Another story... I partnered with a friend in high school on a 70 Nova w/ a 327 th350. We just kinda played with it. Then he sold it. I've always been into cars for as long as I can remember, and now my son is coming around. He wanted to build a "HOT ROD", so here we are. One 69' 396 Th400 Nova later. Hoping to get some good pics of the car up soon.
Glad to be here and hope to make tons of friends. Thanx to everyone!!!!!:D

6911427,
I too have a DSM. I use my 98 Diamante for commuting to work. 140,000 miles, and running strong. Just recently got it re-painted, replaced the window tint, and just yesterday replace the driver's side window cushion/adjustable slider (the front one on the door).
Tuner's are a whole "new" culture that gives credit to what our young people can do today.
However, some of us had smaller, high speed vehicles sometime ago as well...can you say RX-3SP ??? The RX-7 was born from the developments done in this car by Mazda on those days.
I was in the :usmc: when I drove this...

You'll find these folks very knowledgeable on N.O.V.A.'s (Nova, Omega, Ventura, Acadian) tech, and they are great bunch too!

Hey, just wanted to say thanks to everyone for the welcome. I just wanted to say though that I'm not trying to "kick" the ricer habit. Just trying to branch out a little. There are more than one type of hot rod now days. It all depends on the frame of mind your in at the time when you decide.....correction......when you are summoned by the great one, to build......, create......, cut...., weld.., test.., tune., drive, and unleash total h.... oh, sorry , got a little carried away there. There are many different types of hot rods though, from the old rat rods, to the muscle cars era, teh 80s and 90s "retro builders" as I call them, and the new age of import builders. I agree though that there is a difference between building an respectable import car and a "ricer". A few serious people have built some very high end respectable cars from import bases. Take John Shepard for example; he is currently in a 1st gen DSM that runs a very decent time. Take a look at these few sites http://www.shepracing.com/
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LiSptlw-L_U
Then there are the people that just throw stickers, big shiny wheels, a coffee can exhaust, some flashy lights, and other do-dads on their cars and expect people to show appreciation for what they have done. I, myself, do not fall in that category. So I guess you could say that I don't have to "kick" the ricer habit because I never had it.
I had a nice import car, until the wife got ahold of it and mated it head on with a Ram quad-cab. That ended the major interest in it. I still have a couple cars I'm trying to work on though. Well, I think thats enough defense on that subject. I hope I didn't offend anyone. Just trying to make the point that everyone has there own view of a hot rod. From the seasoned guys, to the young people; everyone is different. I always appreciate a well thought out and built car. Whatever origin it may be or come from. But, yes, there is nothing like the feel of raw hp and torque transferring to a posi rear for some serious tire smoldering. It all has its own appeal.
As for me, I live in Iron City, TN. It is right above the AL state line. Close to the Mississippi state line too. It a great place to live. Not too close to anyone, but not so far away they have to "pump in sunshine"!!
Here are the pics I have of the car now

You can find the specs on it if you search my post. Don't wanna take up too much more space. Lastly, just wanted to say thanks to all and hope we can all help each other out as much as possible. Oh, anyone live near me???????? I feel kind of alone!!!!!

Hey thanx! Glad to see there is someone else here who has had that experience. My car, after they got done building and tuning it, they said it would put down @ 450 - 480 whp but I never got a chance to have it dynoed. I did take it to the track though. A few bad passes to begin with, then one set of axle and one set of slicks later, I made a pretty good pass. If I can remember it was like 11.45 at somewhere around 128 mph. I can't remember exactly cause when my wife totalled the car, all my documents were in it. All I have now are memories...:(:grouphug: Hey steelcitysix, looks like your a newb, AND have a 69 Nova. You don't by chance live in southern middle TN do you? Just kidding. Welcome to you as well!
