BillsNogo 3rd-February-2008, 09:57 PM I hate to say it, but I know how you feel. Maybe just take some time away from it and don't work on it. Some time away from it might be what you need, then when you get the itch again, start on it again.
It is hard to see an end to some of these projects, and even more so when you need to keep waiting for the funds to build up
Hmmmmm....... kind of like a love/hate relation ship with a woman, there are times you want nothing but to be with them, and then there are times when....... uh, maybe I should not finish this thought, wife might look over my shoulder
Stock72Nova 3rd-February-2008, 10:06 PM HAHA LOL!:D
Yeah I guess but Im really itching to get back behind the wheel of real american muscle there nothing else like it. Yeah and the money has stop coming in for the car its now being diverted directly to the pockets of kawaisaki to pay off the jet ski I bought.

There lies your lack of motivation.....To many toys and not enough time nor money for all can bring a screaching halt to things......
Drink a few  and then sell the jetski...problom solved... or
sell both and buy something ready to burn rubber.......
Good Luck

Jason628 3rd-February-2008, 11:26 PM Greetings,
I was there several times while putting mine back together and I still have a love/hate relationship with it. You just need to take a break from it...It does get old pouring money into something and not being able to enjoy it. Then once it is done you have to pour more money into it to work out the bugs! Eventually you will get to a point to where all you have to do is drive it. While I still kick around the idea of selling it, all in all it's not hurting anything so it stays around.
As far as wanting the Chevelle...I can understand as I'd love to have a '62 Impala 409.
Just hang in there and get it done....It'll happen!
Jason
Stock72Nova 3rd-February-2008, 11:36 PM Well chevelles and gm a-bodies are my first love and novas come in close second. Ive always been a chevelle guy but try finding one for $800 (what I paid for the nova) and drive it home.

I like chevelles too, but I like that skylark way more. Skylarks are just so pleasing to the eye, and not soooooo common at car shows.
underatree 5th-February-2008, 08:19 PM When I first got my nova I loved working on it.The whole driver side 1/4 panel was surface rust.It took me litterally 4 months of sitting next to the car sanding on it to get the 1/4 into shape. Then I let it sit for awhile.I wanted it to look like a whole car and so Ito cut all the spots where the front clip bolts to the body because bolts where broke off into the body.while I was cutting and welding I replaced the passenger rocker. The passenger side floor pan.And put another passenger door on it.
Then it sat for a long time.Until I got on a camaro furom. And saw a fellow that had a 68 camaro that he has replaced almost all the sheetmetal himself on it in an astoundingly short amount of time.
He's also a member here. And I beleive he built a 66.That made me feel bad.And lately I've been working on the car everyday again.

I liked it to I was cloning it into a gs but had to sell it cuz I couldnt afford to keep up w/it, and fill it 3x a week.
Well I just thougt I would give everyine an update, my dad and I finished the floorpans finally and wirewheeled and painted the interior floor and now Im working on the underside of the car before I put the subframe back under it. I dont dread looking at it now that Im making some progress those floor pans just had me so frustrated.
gmracing355 18th-March-2008, 05:57 AM It took me five years of work and not working on my car to get her where she is now and still is not complete. Unless you have the money too many toys are death to a major project. I begged barthered credit card was abused but in the end its worth it.

bbdeuce 18th-March-2008, 08:48 AM Take little break and go to some car shows and look at some finished novas. That will help motivate you.
Gates72ss 19th-March-2008, 01:13 PM I am just getting back to work on the nova after almost a year off.Progress was going so slow plus i have alot of other toys that kept me busy.I am feeling like i did when i first bought the car and cant wait to get going on it again.......Thought about selling it, couldn't bring myself to sell it so i may as well fix it so i can enjoy it....It was a running car when i took it home, but i stripped the car the next day so i have not even driven this car yet.....The car will be getting driven this summer for sure......
73ss406 19th-March-2008, 01:54 PM i hear you on the loss of motivation,i bought mine new drove it for 10 yrs, took 10 more to rebuild the whole car, in that 10 yrs i had to build a garage,do family things, work side jobs to get cash for the nova, it went on and on but all i ever had in mind was the nova everything revolved around getting it done how much i was going to drive it and all. got it done in 1993,have put 20k onit since, dont even get it out anymore. for 4 yrs its been setting waiting to get a repaint, it got damaged from setting,no motivation, started stripping it out last week, still not getting thrilled about it. maybe its the weather,or maybe its old age.also have 84h/o 65 cutlass 67 cutlass 68 delmont projects and no" get up and get it done" feeling anymore. just chugging along. hope yours gets done too.
yllib1961 19th-March-2008, 05:24 PM Come on Mikey! Keep focused brother! Spring is here and the fever will come back to you for sure. I took virtually the entire winter off from the Nova. Same deal, either too cold, too snowy, or too old for this stuff. I don't know which one but I am slowly coming out of my funk. Just picked up a 05 Honda VT750 to get a hold of these gas prices. I am going to sell the Cutlass right after Gettysburg and just keep the Bike. Whatever cash I get for the Olds, plus my tax money will go into the Nova. Thats my plan. Hope to finally meet you at Englishtown in a few weeks. Take care, Billy.
Heres my new ride for this year....

yllib1961 19th-March-2008, 07:53 PM The dates are April 18th, 19th, and 20th. I'll be there Saturday the 19th. I hope to see you there buddy. Billy
ALLT4 19th-March-2008, 09:20 PM This is supposed to be fun first of all. We do it because we love it. Don't turn it into work, step back and give yourself a break, admire what you've accomplished so far. Don't look at the entire picture all at once. You can only do one thing at a time, start a repair/rebuild on one section or something and see just that part through. Sooner or later there will be little left and you'll see the light at the end of the tunnel. Nothing wrong with kicking back for a while, we all don't have a five man crew 40 hours a week and millions worth of tools to build these things. One person can only do so much with his limited resources.
One other thing I've found that helps is keeping the work area/garage neat and uncluttered. Take a whole day or something and just work on the work area. It's just as productive as working on the car, when you go out to a neat organized garage you have a much better mindset and tend to do better work.

Words to live by. I about sold mine a couple of times and now I am glad I had no takers. Even though there is light at the end of the tunnel I know there is still more suprises in store. Its worth it.
My oldest son told me the other day that I had a car that alot of guys would kill for. I had to think about that for a little while.
All I was seeing was the trim pieces that were still missing, the parts that were still on backorder, the parts that stilll needed to be ordered, the door lock that didnt work..............
Stand back and look at it from another perspective and you might just see things in a whole new light.

3504speed 19th-March-2008, 11:24 PM Have you told your Nova that your in love with the Chevelle???::confused::confused:
Stock72Nova 20th-March-2008, 12:26 AM haha yeah, and it knows it would be sold as soon as that 71 SS went up for sale
77Concours 20th-March-2008, 08:24 AM I've had this happen before I had a 1985 El Camino Conquista with all the options imaginable. I looked for more and more parts wanting to do this and then the guy we hired to work on it just walked away only to pay attention to his girlfriend. That was fine with me if only it was going to be about a 3 week period. Well weeks went into months and you get the picture. After I sold the Elky I saw a 72 Chevelle it might have been an SS but it had a 350 in it and needed some work he was asking $6,900 and said he wouldnt let it go for something under six 8. I called the next day and he sold it for $6,000really annoyed me. Just depending on your funds to find a $800 Chevelle will be so so in difficulty but It will need a super amount of work probably more than your current Nova. Just my opinion but you do what you think is right.
MiniTubbedNova 20th-March-2008, 10:53 AM i find that you get frustrated with the little stuff. I irst bought my nova i would drive it at least twice a week. then it just got tired of dealing with little stupid stuff. the doors didnt lock the brakes would lock up. it had no balls, it was just little stuf that frustrated me. the big stuff didn't matter becasue i would see where i eventualy would be. i saw a new motor in the near future. but i worked so hard on the brakes and couldn't figure it out. i lost intrest totaly. the car sat thru the heart of race season. i even thought about selling it. one day i was sitting in my room and the solution to my brakes just poped in my head. i imedatly went out and fixed it. then since that was fixed i could drive it like a normal car and not have to get out and bleed the brakes on the side of the road. I also realized that since the door didnt lock that i wouldnt drive it like i wanted to i just joyrode. then i bought the new motor and man was i happy. but it would hydro lock after 15 minutes of running. that mad eme mad and it sat for a long time. then i had my friend from down the street come up and wanted to buy the car. he had cash in hand and i said no then he said that he was tried of it just sitting there and he said that he would help me and that he would buy the parts. he bought 200 dollars in an fitings and braided line. it realy helped it but it would still drop pressure so one day when i was getting home i saw my garage open and the nova pulle halfway in. i was in shock when i saw him putting a pump in it. my mom gave him the keys and my tools becasue she was tired of me not working on it. basicly that freind insipred my motivation becxause when we got it fixed we went to the crusie night every week.
sometimes you just need someone else to let you drive there car, or help on yours.
now i drive it every where. it gets drive to school on mondays wendays and fridays.(more then my dd) it gets driven to the track. adn local cruise nights. basicly sometimes yopu just need help of friend to insipre you intrest.
i have very little left at the end of the week before pay day but i see it as i have material object that i use as recreation. its a car that i very much enjoy. my brother thinks im stupid and he thinks that i sould spend mopney and smoke and drink with him, but in the end of all the frustration and money spent you will have something that you enjoy and can say that you built.
take a break or just get some friend involved with your project. you find intrest when you fix the little headahces and work on the big picture.
Stock72Nova 21st-March-2008, 01:00 AM I realize that I will not get an $800 chevelle in good condition the only one I would buy would be that ss I had pics of. Im not thinking of selling the nova I have too much work into it. I was just getting frustrated because its taking forever and im really itching to drive it, but at the sametime I dont want to rush anything while im restoring it.
Nova74ss 24th-March-2008, 09:13 PM WHAT IN THE FURRY BLUE HELL??? why would u subject ur nova to punishments of being secound to a japanises harley water rocket? piss on that... Im Halfway to Buildin That .040 350 4 bolt with my 882 heads
Bluesman 25th-March-2008, 12:25 AM Hey Mike we've all been there. :o People who have never done it have NO FREAKING IDEA how much work it is! Try to set yourself milestones and then celebrate after each one. Don't try to do the whole thing in one bite. You are part of the select! the few! the ones who BUILD it instead of BUY it!!:D:D:D You will be so proud of it and of yourself when it is done.
But just one bite at a time...one bite at a time...one bite at..............

Boy you need a pacifier. Just kidding, I'm the same way. Look at it as one more joyous occasion where you get to overcome something. Get it done pat yourself on the back and say "Wo da man...I da man.. uh huh, that's right!""
Stock72Nova 22nd-April-2008, 09:54 PM HORRAY subframe is back in!!!!!! Got the pivot ball yesterday, and my dad put the bellhousing and trans back in while I was at school, then we put the subframe back in. Clutch fork still hit but we just ground it down witht the dremmel.

Novaddiction 28th-April-2008, 11:36 PM I know how the frustrations can get you down. My car sat in the body shop so long I thought about giving it up. Luckily I've gotten it out of there and dropped the drivetrain in. Now I can hardly wait to turn some wrenches. Good luck.
Stock72Nova 29th-April-2008, 07:53 PM :bored::bored:Ok new problem:bored::bored: Shifter is wrong for the car. new one is $350:( also have the wrong console:(and need $200 for my wilwood master cyl. Stock72Nova 1st-September-2008, 09:48 PM Well the car has sat all summer I havnt touched it really, its just been tooo hot out. Got her running, cut out the trunk pan, jacked it up to remove the rear and thats about it. I have to remove the trans AGAIN and install the correct throwout so the clutch will disengauge:mad: Then I gotta drop the rear and rebuild it and clean it and clean and paint the rest of the underside of the car. Need to weld the trunk pan in, put in the new gas tank and sender, and install the subframe connectors. Ugh soooo much work to do, maybe Ill be more motiveted to get it done now so I can start on my AMX
Bluesman 2nd-September-2008, 02:10 AM Thinking about everything left to do is pretty overwhelming. Just do 1 thing at a time.
Dave
Stock72Nova 7th-September-2008, 11:29 PM Trans is back out!!! Got my new shifter setup and need to order my throwout bearing then the trans can go back in. Hopefully it will solve my clutch problems:rolleyes:If not ime to buy a hydraulic set up. Up nest finish detailing the underside of the car and install trunkpan and gas tank.:bored:Wonder how many months that will take me
tnblkc230wz 8th-September-2008, 12:19 AM If your gas trunk supports are remotely bad, you may want to replace them too. It will make removing the trunk pan a lot easier as there are a boat load of spot welds to cut loose otherwise.
Dr. Denny 8th-September-2008, 12:46 AM Trans is back out!!! Got my new shifter setup and need to order my throwout bearing then the trans can go back in. You remind me of Eeyore. Sell the damn thing, sell the AMX. And be miserable doing anything else.
Like Bluesman said 1 thing at a time, okay maybe a couple of things at the same time, but you can't look at everything,or if you do, don't expect it to just fly together. Or just lower your standards.:turn:
