Hey kids, my name is Bob Statler and I'm 60 yrs old. I've been married to Carolyn for some 39 yrs. now and we're still goin strong. Loved Novas since 1965 although I didn't get my first Nova till 1998. Spent most of my life in the San Francisco Bay Area town of Los Gatos. Moved to the small Sierra Nevada foothill town of Grass Valley,CA. in 2003 and am glad to be out of the rat race...
Most of my spare time from 1974 thru 2003 was spent wrenching on Super Modifieds and Sprint Cars that raced both pavement and dirt tracks. Was a Sprint Car owner from 1987 thru 2000 with my son as the driver. While I am still somewhat involved in my sons racing, I really enjoy working on my 1967 Nova and going to car shows where you can kick some tires and BS with other car nuts...

Hey Pops,
I too am nearing that 60 mark - spent most of the last 30 years in San Jose area - is your son Jason - 00 sprinter - spent many a night at San Jose and Baylands enjoying the racing action - did alittle dirt tracking at Baylands myself in their friday night Automania series - have been a Nova enthusiast for many years and got my first one back in the early 70's back on the east coast then moved west - had many cars that I now wish I still had - added a 67 wagon to my small collection back in 04 - starting to put it back together after paint and CPP front susp upgrade - I too had to get out of the rat race of the silicon valley and moved to a small town between Fresno and Bakersfield - pop. 1100 or so - nice and quiet too!

soriano44, yes, I'm Jason Statler's dad. You got me thinking about the old days at Baylands. Man, we had some fun back then...It was a shame to see the joint closed, torn down and the land just sit there for years and years.
We raced Baylands early on in Jasons open wheel career, ran a mini-sprint there. Started racing 410" sprints at San Jose in 1989, raced there for a couple of years before moving to the NARC/Golden State Series which ran all over the west coast. Also spent three summers criss-crossing the USA racing with the All-Stars, USAC and the WoO. Loved all of it, but wouldn't do it again...Now I have my Nova, take it to cruises and shows, kick some tires, shoot the bull and sip on a cold one or two...
How do you like that CPP front end? Been considering buying one myself...

I really like the way it works - before I did the front end I put a big sway bars up front and back then sub-frame connecters and it stiffened up the wagon alot - after doing the front end - (I did upper and lower and put new spring perches on the uppers) the thing now feels like it's on a rail. Not too much into drag racing the wagon and it's pretty much a daily driver, but with a mild 350 and O/D trans its really fun to drive. I miss the old days of racing around the bay area too - but all the tracks have gone by the wayside - I'm waiting to see if that new Riverside Motorsport Track complex in Merced gets going - that should be pretty exciting.
