Ok, Here is my Dilemma. I have a few Nova's and the one in question is this 68 I bought. The car is clean with all the original floors and metal and even paint. It does need a paint job but still has the original Interior in it. It is not an SS. The only work on the Body the car needs is rear outer wheel houses and Quarter skins. The complete Drive train is not the original now. It has a 383 w/dart heads. Turbo 400 with 3500 stall and 12 bolt 4:11 gears. Car also has a 200 shot of NOS. I want to race the car at the strip and know it will need a cage. My question is if I go to sell the car, will the cage hurt the value?? I am putting the quarters on and repainting the whole car.

I'd say the cage will lower the value greatly. Most insurance companies won't cover a car with a cage.

Why not? I have never been asked if my car had a rollcage when insuring it. What makes you think that?

If you contact your insurance company or any of the big name classic car insurance companies they won't cover them. Ask me how I know that! My scanner doesn't work so I can't scan the paperwork. I have two letters from insurance companies declining coverage on my car because of the roll bar. They will cover a car that came factory with a bar, but not a bar that has been added to a car. Look at Hagertys and some of the others sites. If you don't beleive me call your insurance compay and ask them.

Hagerty does not offer an insurance product for:

Inexpensive home-built kits that do not replicate a classic vehicle
Replicas of the 1963-67 Shelby Cobra Roadster
Any vehicles used for camping, off-road or utility-type driving
Pro-street vehicles modified exclusively with racing features such as roll cages, wheelie caster, nitrous systems, parachutes, etc. (Consideration may be given to show-use only vehicles)
Regular-use vehicles driven on a daily basis
Vehicles used primarily for commercial use
No motorcycles with performance modifications
Any vehicle modified with a nitrous system. Vehicles that run on nitro-methane or blown alcohol systems are ineligible.

Insurance is not a problem as I have collector Insurance through state farm and as long as I dont call the car a race car, it can be Insd. I work for an Insurance company and have many policy holders with cages in their cars.

This veh is insd as a show-classic so it has Insurance. I guess I can put a cage in the car and take it out if I decide to sell the car. AS for Insurance cancelling your policy for a cage. Never has happened since I been in the business. I have personally written 1000's of estimates and a few cars have had cages. If your racing the car and it gets damaged, then you SOL. But if your driving the car down the street and it gets in an accident, You will be covered.

Try giving Heacock a call. They are far less rigid than Hagerties. I canceled Hagerties and wen't with Heacock for that very reason.

On a side note, I had a customer that had a 92 LX mustang which he drag raced all the time. He had a 10 point cage in it and it was Insd through State Farm. Well he was driving down the road going through and intersection and was t-boned by a truck going 65. If he wouldn't of had the cage in the car, he would of been dead. The adjuster even agreed that he was lucky to have the cage in the car. They paid him for his car and noone ever complained nor denied him of his claim for his cage.

I work for an Insurance company and have many policy holders with cages in their cars. Well you are lucky; like I said I was turned down by two companies. I have the coverage denial paperwork to prove it. State Farm tried to deny coverage on my car years ago. The only reason they didn't was because they had covered for several years before they saw the car. When they tried my dad and I went to the agents office and argued with them.
Collector Classic Insurance covers mine for 16K at over 3 times the cost of Hagerty's quote.
I'm done you say it can be covered by your company and it isn't an issue. Other than that I say cage away!

Your state farm is different from mine then. I had no cage, I just have a fuel cell, lighweight bucket seats, a big block and some performance stickers in my back window and they called it a race car and would not insure me. Now they will as I put in a bench seat and took the stickers off.

They wanted to know if it had a cage in it and told me if it did, it was a race car and would not insure it. Collector car insurance generally sucks if you ask me

Marlin, work and school (apprenticeship) has kept me busy. Not as much time to visit this site, but still need to check in now and then. Just can not stay away from such a great site with so many nice Novas
