Everyone,

I just spoke with my brother over the phone, and he had the platform tow truck following him home with my newly-acquired 1971 Acadian. I am just so anxious to get it home.

In the middle of our conversation, he tells me "hey bro, you put alien thoughts in my head, and ..." "well, I bought that Red 71 Nova SS i had sent you a picture of...." He probably thought that I would be "mad" at him, but nothing could be further from the truth. My whole aim was the Acadian, for the connection it reminded me of our father (my brother has a totally different connection with my dad).

He tells me that the red Nova is immaculate, and that the following picture does not give it justice...

It is a 1971 Nova SS. Bucket seats, console, tach, black vynil top, 350 engine (like original engine with correct castings, but NOT thy original engine). He's is very excited about it too. He told me that ever since he sold his Nova, he felt like he had made a huge mistake.

He also sent me images of my Acadian. Now hear this, the owner revamped the car, and he researched the numbers on this Acadian. Apparently, he told my brother that the vin checks-out to a yellow Acadian. The engine matches numbers as well together with the Power glide tranny...wait to you click on the Acadian links below.

(there are more images in my home page including a small blemish on the right-front fender and some of the defects on the interior which my brother will get fixed (interior ones) before we bring my car to NM)

By the way, those side stripes, the 14" wheels, and the hood/trunk trim are original to the car (but the stripes were repainted because of the fresh paint job)!!!!!

And for our good friends from Canada, I bid you thanks, and please know that I have been typing this long post while listening to Feist!

Jackpot! For both of us!

What does Acadian mean?

The definition by Merriam-Websters is http://www.m-w.com/dictionary/Acadian

But for us Nova lovers it means the name of the GMC-Canada version of the Nova. And I know that on previous year-models the Acadian had been identified as a "Pontiac", but in 1971, it was marketed as a GMC vehicle, and besides, in 1971 Pontiac there was the Ventura.

Wikipedia has some interesting "historical" comments about the Acadian car...http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acadian_%28automobile%29

Very good question, though.

Quick,

You aren't kidding! I am truly surprised at how complete the car is. The interior is original as well, but the door panels are in need of recovering, and my brother told me that the rear seat needs a redo as well, but the hard part is all done. He also told me that the previous owner had disassembled the entire car, and placed close attention to all the areas.

I plan to have the trim restored when I get it here. If you know where is best to send trim for refurbishing, then please let me know.

I found a complete A-C kit for my car, and even though I would not want to alter the car very much, it does get pretty hot out here in the desert, and if I plan to drive it to gatherings, then I might as well add A-C to the Acadian. And besides, the kit is the same kind of kit that it was found back in the late 70's. I should know, I had a shop install A-C back then to my dad's car, and I was glad then I did.:D

Just alittle FYI the Acadian brand name is not Pontiac,it is a misconception. The Acadian was a stand alone model,as you mentioned the Venture was Pontiacs addition of the Nova. They were sold at Pontiac GMC dealers though,I think this is what cause the confusion.
You can also get the Paper work on your car for about $45 Can that will give you the options of the car too!You can call GM Canada for it.Or check here.Nice find for both of you.

Taz,

Thanks for backing-me-up on this issue. That has been my recollection all along. But on the Internet, it is always referred as a Pontiac.

I recall visiting the GMC dealership with my dad in 71, and it was a GMC dealer.

And the link for the paperwork from GMC-Canada is totally off-the-hook! Thanks! I appreciate that!
